you are pretty confident your world will never turn upside down? It only takes a blink of an eye unfortunately.

So, if our "world gets turned upside down", should we try to move to Syria? I'm sure they'll welcome us with open arms. Maybe even change their traditions for us. Celebrate Christmas too, I'd guess.

hope you are your family never need any help.

How many families are you gonna personally sponsor financially, maybe share your family home till they get on their feet, or are you just thinking this should be an initiative that all Canadians should fund because you believe it's the right thing to do, regardless if others have differing thoughts or opinions. ?

soooooo lets just say your family is threatened by war and your options are limited. What would you do?? stay and risk losing your whole family?? I guarantee all of you would do what you have to do to keep your family safe and if that means accepting an invite from a great nation like Canada you would take it. FYI, Syria is full of Christians celebrating Christmas (estimated around 1.5 to 2 million). Look it up. Unfortulately ISIS is slowly wiping them out.

is that what this is all about….. money?? pretty sad country we have become. And for the record, yes I donated 25,000 bucks to a village in Peru to help better their lives and bring power. What have you done for your fellow human being??

There's no winning this argument with you, so I'm just going to leave it alone with just this one final thought. Our PHUCKING government can't even look after our own people! Our seniors are treated worse than the scumbag criminals in prisons! We can't even claim unemployment insurance for more than X number of weeks even tho we paid into it for God knows how many YEARS! But we can welcome these refugees into our country with open arms, and shell out millions and perhaps even billions of dollars for them?!?!?!? There is something seriously wrong there, I don't care what you think or say. I can't even fathom that any true Canadian can be even a little bit ok with this!!

very valid points and I agree with them all and yes they need to be addressed. But we are already receiving 1/4 million immigrants per year. Instead of taking 250,000 "economic immigrants" take xxx from them and give a helping hand to those in need. Rather take them than someone from China/India whose life is not under threat.

Well then I applaud your conviction. But, making a financial Contribution to a school or hospital IN a country needing help , is a completely different thing than bringing the people from that country to this country, especially with all the evil and nefarious individuals hiding behind the guise of refugee status . Subjecting all Canadians to that risk is IMO, just not worth it.
what about the demands being made of Canada, no more Lord's Prayer, elimination of certain menu items, from schools and restaurant buffets, change of Christmas to Holiday tree and season, change of rcmp uniform, change in normal facial recognition methods, demands that national anthem be eliminated from public gatherings , schools and sports events. These are just a few of the demands being made by the refugees , who in your opinion just want to come here because they believe they'll have a better future, ......... If we change so many of our long standing traditions and cultural norms, so they can be happy.
your bleeding heart should only put you at risk, not all of Canada.

How many posts have you made on this forum or others regarding the issues with our senior situation or the screwed up employment insurance system that you acknowledged are in need of attention, these are issues right under our noses that are affecting huge numbers of Canadians. Are you as vocal and active supporting those causes, how much money have you donated to these initiatives, right here at home.

again valid points and I agree with you 150%. I have no intention on approving someone to come to Canada and change our ways…. period. But, I refuse to paint ALL refugees with the same brush just like I don't label all German's as Nazis or Japanese as Kamikaze etc etc. Anyway, not here to create enemies just trying to have a civil discussion and this is one of them we don't agree on. Cheers!

well should I give you a resume of my do goods in Canada. Just finished my year end and according to my accountant my company donated $6,900 to various causes in BC. Just last week I donated $500 bucks to our local school for their dance performance next spring. Last Christmas a single mother dying with cancer did not have the funds to buy gifts, xmas tree etc etc. There goes another $1000.00 bucks days before she died. Her children were able to spend her last few days during the holidays. A young single mom in Vernon suffering from extreme arthritis and cannot work was not able to pay her rent so another $700 bucks gone. So, I guess to answer your question I have. Not to mention my donated time for various causes. Unfortunately I have never collected EI so had no idea how many days one could qualify.

Those are certainly actions to be applauded, and in my opinion more of us should do the same . We tend to look past the obvious disadvantaged and hardship that so many are struggling with in our own areas, maybe cause they're not on TV news, or maybe because we see the habitual lazy abusers of our assistance programs.

Let me answer that for you. ZERO! As a business owner, you should not be paying into the system either, as you are not entitled to collect.

You are right I am not paying into it now being a business owner. Even prior to being self employed I was fortunate enough to have a job and not needing it. But I also think the system is screwed if you can't collect what you paid into it when in need.

I'm amazed how many threads get completely derailed on this forum.

I was going to say that the Americans can and will protect Alaska. We are currently building a road that would connect Tuk to Inuvik which would really help the Ruskies put boots on the ground at Alaska's backdoor...
