I'm looking for information on where to find out where the ID tag is on the transmission . I'm told there are 2 types of 4r70w transmissions. Any help would be nice. I'm trying to find my son a used transmission and don't want yo buy the wrong one. Thanks

take your serial no. to a ford parts guy they can tell you, each no on the serial tells them the make and model

For model, service ID level or build date information, refer to the transmission service ID tag located on the transmission case.
Identification Tag

ItemPart NumberDescription
1Model number
2Assembly number
3Serial number
4Model and serial number

It should be on the side above the pan, i think somewhere around where the dipstick goes in, the only diff i can see between the two would be 2wd or 4wd, the tail and output shafts would be different. that and 7700 models used a 4r100.

It's a 4w70r for sure but the auto wreckers keep telling me is either a 1L3P-JA or2L1P-FA. 4x4
