Were the two types of bulbs having issues in the same light fixture? Do you have these elsewhere in the house with no problems?

Normal incandescent bulbs are the way to go. The CFL bulbs contain mercury and are said to be just as bad for the environment as the power thirsty incandescent. Do you drive a hybrid car?

What about the newer LED bulbs out there? Anyone have any experience with these. I have an insane amount of pot lights in my house, and would love to replace the bulbs with something else as they burn out, so that they get a longer life, and I don't have to replace them as often.

I put twenty 4" Cree LED pot lights in new house. Light is similiar to incandescent, bright and is dimable. So far no trouble with them at all. Price is the kicker though!!

Yes, they certainly are way more expensive, but I would imagine there is a serious savings in the long run, as they generally use 1/10th the wattage, and have a much longer life. That's why I plan on replacing them as bulbs burn out, instead of of a mass replacement.

I always keep my outside lights on. The front two seem to burn out quickly. I changed them to led to try and so far they haven't gone out. It has been maybe 4-5 months?? I used to have them go out maybe every two or three months?? I think I will give them a couple more months and then buy more if they are still holding up. Some neighbours have led lights that are really bright. I would prefer to get them if I can find them.

I have the new LED lights in my place, Apparently they "dont burn out ever" but that remains to be seen. When you hit the lights though they take about 1-2 seconds to turn on though. How do you install those lights? Do you wear clean gloves when you install them or just twist them in bare handed? If you do the oils on your fingers affect the strength of the glass and not only will they burn out faster but you also run the risk of them exploding or catching fire. Just a little FYI, also i dont use them because of the temp they run. I dont need 8 ovens above my head at all times in the summer thank you very much haha

Also by the look of where it is burnt, you have the wrong type of fixture for that bulb. Almost looks like a short or too high of either voltage or amperage or both. Could also have something to do with what ever else is on the circuit with it.

Don't fluorescent lights run cooler than your standard incandescent bulbs? Halogen lights you have to be careful with installing with bare hands, because they run very hot.

There are hundreds of cases of CFL's doing exactly what yours did. I get notices from the BC Inspection Authority probably every other month. There have even been houses burned to the ground by them. With the fire hazzard and the mercury hazzard these things are one of the biggest cases of "egg on the face" for environmentalists I've seen since turning food into fuel!
