Flooring.....?

just had someone come in to our office and give a quote to redo the flooring. he wants to put in laminate hardwood like i did in my house. the stuffs great and i love it but for a commercial space with extreme foot traffic im a bit concerned with durability. i have seen vinyl looking flooring in some other commercial spaces...?

any thoughts? whats in your offices

I put laminate in our office 4 years ago and still holding up nicely. We have a fair bit of traffic and we don't remove our outdoor shoes either. I would suggest if you have office chairs with casters to put a mat down though as it does wear there - but I think almost anything will.

thanks, its just not feasible for everyone to remove there shoes all the time so that is good to know!

Maxwell, you need to have 12-14mm with AC4 commercial grade wear resistance to use in your building.

I put in hospital grade vinyl flooring. It's bullit proof and is actually laid one piece at a time so if there ever is damage it is relatively easy to replace. Looks and feels like real planks.

my buddy's pop runs a flooring outfit and he suggested much the same stuff, it wasn't hospital grade but a commercial flooring stuff laid in separate strips that looks like hardwood, they installed it in a hotel bar and on the dance floor with good wear results. he had a bunch left over and gave it to me to put in my 5th wheel.

Ya most of the new Safeways have the same stuff in and around the bakery/produce sections ......... can't say enough good things about it. I did mine about seven years ago for about 8 bucks a square if memory serves. Still looks new.

Lots of commercial places are using laminates. They look like they are standing up well. The only ones that seem to not stand up are those not installed properly.

Go to a mall and walk into the individual stores and take a look. I was amazed how much of that stuff was being used commercially.

forgot to mention that I paid $1.90 per sq ft plus install. So cheap cost for not bad wear.

ya thats similar to my quote. my main concern was its a huge pain in the ass to move 20 offices and alll our junnk so i wanted it done right ya know.

yeah I can appreciate that. I only had 4 desks to worry about and all the stuff that goes with operating an office.
