Ok , first yeah I know I'm gonna have guys telling me what a heartless jerk imam with no compassion, so that should save a couple posts for some of you. But, was listening to the news re the Chetwynd/Dawson flood situation and no way you can't feel terrible for those families in those areas devastated by the flooding, no fault of their own and really no way to prepare for that. I feel horrible for those affected and am thankful that me and my loved ones were spared that grief.
But, yesterday on the news I heard some talking head making announcement telling the people who chose to have no insurance how to move forward to receive disaster relief , I assume provided by the provincial or federal governments.
Now this is a bit of a knee jerk reaction, cause I haven't really totally thought this through, but is no insurance not a choice we all make, a risk we take, with all our possessions that are not mandated to be insured because of lenders requirements or governmental obligations ? And if many people who suffer these disasters have insurance, and the ones who chose not to , yes it's a terrible thing for their family members who may have been blameless, can expect to receive emergency benefits from taxpayer funded sources, is that a fair situation and a reasonable expectation ? Should we not be expected to make decisions in our lives and then live with the consequences ? And please understand I hate insurance companies, but I'm no way enough of a gambler to say screw it I'll take my chances, cause this may happen.
Sorry if this hits to close to home for some of you whose lives have been turned upside down . Just seems like I keep hearing these same stories form here, Ft Mac, Canmore and others, and those personal choices become governmental emergencies as soon as the $hit hits the fan. ????????
