Re: First Time Sled Deck-> What to look for?

Just get a Cross Trax and don't look back. Best deck on the market. If I was to get a deck again, 100% it would be a Cross Trax.

Best deck on the market ?? Lol
Some pretty good options out there right now .
Limitless
Mline
Jetcraft to name a few others .
Cheers

I use the Marlon Explorer deck with the extension. The sliding anchor points on the side rails nice when hauling some ting other than sleds.
Sleds sit flatter than 8' and flip up the extension when I tow the trailer.
No towing trailer with 1.5' (8' decks)of deck overhang unless you like dents in the side of your trailer.
3 years and no issues.

I got a fully loaded mission trailer and use it less and less every year, bought this marlon deck with flip extension for 1500 bucks and cant complain fixed the wiring up and its been a great deck. 2nd last pic shows a 154 on the deck with no extension. Last pic shows how much more overhang there is on my old dodge with extension compared to the ford both shortboxs

That’s why you have to keep a copy of the regs printed off in your Center console.

One for BC transport laws, one for AB OHV laws, one for fire arms laws. Lol. Teaching law enforcers never ends.
I've been pulled over a few times over the years where I knew the law better than the guy pulling me over. They don't like that very much.

They don't like it but if you are reasonable with them and show you are following the law I haven't had any issues other than the one chick in Creston who still felt like she needed to write me a warning for something I clearly wasn't in the wrong for after I called her out on it. I keep that in the console as well lol because she basically admitted she just had to write something down to prove she wrote something down. The Fish Cops get upset even more so when they try and prove you need Spark arrestors on your OHV's,

Lots of Good Decks out there. Don’t shy away from an older deck either that has everything. I Bought a used Deck and just finished Restoring it for this sled season. Quite Simple. Project Took total of 2 Days to strip it and then re-install it all.

1. Powder Coated the deck
2. New Plywood with Line-X
3. New Lights/Wiring
4. Re-use/Add new Superglides

I recommend the shortbox deck with extension aswell especially if you plan on hauling a trailer and to eliminate the overhang of the 8’ in a regular box truck. I have had both and prefer my extension when it’s needed.

Nice job on the restore, i've done mine about 3-4 time over the years, will be doing it again this year. Infact today picking up material for it.
I built my deck around 20yrs ago, in the early 90's and it will be the only deck i will ever own. Most likely end my sledding with it. It has interesting history, adventures and stories, if it could talk LOL.

How much did the powder coating cost? That looks great!

Re: First Time Sled Deck-> What to look for?

Hahaha, my wife busted her eye brow open last year.

No cuts in my driveway but enough lump on the melon that I got a Marlon 7' with the extension. Used properly it is awsome deck.
Make sure to use the U-bolts with the extension down or the extension arm will fail aND sled falls to the ground and hits truck and you get to pay $600 as the fail without Ubolts is not coveted by warranty.
Did this all happen to me.......no it was a friend.....
lol

Re: First Time Sled Deck-> What to look for?

Anybody have any feedback on the Titan decks? Judging by the pictures online they seem to look ok and are reasonably priced. Thoughts?

At this juncture I have pretty much decided I want a 7 foot with extension and the longest ramp possible. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Re: First Time Sled Deck-> What to look for?

Ok so I got a good line on a couple year old 7ft cross tracks with 2ft extension. It allegedly comes with superglides and no superclamps. I bought both just in case. Other then checking welds and what not is there anything else I should look for?

Any advice for installing it for the ride home? Just put it in the box and strap it down? It’s aluminum so i was going to get it armour guarded. I just want to take it down the highway. Will do the full install this week. Assuming I’ll need to pull my soft cover out before o get this thing, hoping that doesn’t turn into a project

They are decent for the price . You can get them at wholesale liquidators FYI . Need to ask for them they aren't on the floor

As long as you have enough room in the box., I’d just toss in a 4x4 or something to keep the front of the deck far enough away from the tonnue cover at the front of the box, toss in the deck, secure with a ratchet strap, close the tailgate and get it home and deal with the install there.
Check the wiring before you put the deck into the box for the season in case you need to do some repairs, easier to work on before it’s in there.
I went with some 3/4” plywood under the legs and used turnbuckles, been good for me for years.

Depending on the soft top and the deck you may have to remove the tonneau cover completely. My last truck the soft top rails were inside the box and the deck legs were too wide to fit in between. The truck I have now has the rails on top of the box so a deck may fit if the legs are tall enough. Just something to think about.

Otherwise just throw it in, strap it down and away you go as far as I am concerned to get it home.

Ended up having it delivered right to my house last night. Pictures aren’t the best but here she is in the garage after I melted all the snow off!!

Extension will either be delivered or picked up next week. I’m pretty excited to try it now that I have it.

Snow this weekend looks like terrible so we’re gonna fix it up this weekend. Replace the plywood and armour guard new plywood. Install front superclamps, install superglides, double check wiring and rewire some parts.

Will hopefully take out my tonneau cover and have the deck in by Sunday!

Have fun with the project and post pics when done! I bought a 2 yr old 8ft Denali deck last year for $500. The decking was rotted and wiring messed up, so I put it in the garage stripped it down and completely cleaned the aluminum, re-wires with new lights and under-mount lights on a switch, new 3/4” plywood and superglides. I’m into it for $750. It works great for me and prob won’t find one cheaper than that!

I’ll get some better pics once it’s totally done but we re-did the plywood and repainted it. Put on super glides and super clamps and all the wiring works. Works great. I just got the extension delivered last week so I need to redo that and then we’re set to take it up in January!!

The paint we used is super gritty and grippy. It almost feels sandy. I’m interested to see how it does. It was like applying a layer of sludge when we were putting it on there. Took a long time to dry but I think it’ll be worth it. So far it’s been great and nothing has chipped or peeled.

Had to take my 174 to the dealer for a recall in a pinch (before the extension was delivered). Can’t say I was a fan of 4 feet of track hanging off the back. Don’t know how some guys go long distances and are comfortable with that.
