I still remember the first time i drove thru Sparwood and saw the D11's at CAT.. My grandpa was a CAT skinner and i grew up crawling a D8H,8K, 8N's, 7G's 7H's and so on, to see the 10's and 11's was awesome..
10 years ago i wouldn't even look at a JD, today at an RB sale i spend a fair bit of time looking at other brands.. Price, service and attitude of CAT is tough..

When they closed CAT it was sad as i figured a bunch of jobs would be lost, drove thru yesterday to see Cummins right b4 Komatsu's setup and both have employee vehicles scattered across the parking lots on a Saturday night - good to see things kept rolling..

Shop local and private if you can.. HUGE companies just keep buying smaller companies and customer service goes to ****. All of a sudden some dude named Ricki is calling from the Philippines to discuss your Telus home bundle.. Da f*&k Ricki...

This is the beauty of small business, 9 times out of 10 the guy behind the counter has some skin in the game. By giving a customer sh!tty service the effectively take money out of their own pocket.

Finning is far to big for any of this to matter, a couple customers that fail to return won't break them, and no one in corporate will notice the difference until all their former customers are running a different colored machine and at that point its too late.

It's really a shame CAT and Finning have went down this path, they used to put food on the table of many people in this province and nation. But corporate has forgotten the little guy that bought the equipment and the friendly and always knowledgeable parts, service, and sales people that kept that customer coming back time after time. But we are in a different era, and as usual another foreign company will fill the void of this American corporation, who's apparent existence is only to fulfill the greed of its shareholders.

Even as a current employee of finning I cannot deny any of these statements. But they keep paying me every two weeks and I enjoy what I do..... Most days...... That steel line still boggles my mind. I don't understand that pricing at all.

I deal with finning’s parts department a lot. Between the Kamloops call centre and ordering online, I find getting the parts is fairly easy. Pricing is another story however. Lots of stuff it is easy to see the stupid amount of markup on them.

Like it’s been stated before, they seem to lose employees because upper management doesn’t care about the customer. Not to mention the large amount of customers they’ve pissed off over the last few years. I know when my fiancées uncle fired up his construction company 10 years ago he wanted to buy cat iron but finning flat out told him he was too small for them to be bothered. His entire fleet is now Komatsu, go figure. And they wonder why they’re seeing more and more competitors gear out in the dirt...

And when management runs the company into the ground.... management will blame the economy, :rant:and give themselves a nice big fat bonus:realmad:

What do ceo's do to justify such outrageous salary and bonuses :nono:

It took me making four calls to the Kamloops Finning dealer, over a 9 day period, to even have my call returned by a sales person. Then i waited a week for a price quote that I was told would be a couple of hours. After a week I called back, and kept calling back for another two weeks. Finally got a call saying that he didn't want to get me pricing. Seriously how can they still be in business at all.
Love our new Volvo equipment though.
Screw you Finning!

Sent this to Cat today and got a response right away but probably won’t do anything?

I made a comment about your products and Finning in the area I live .
I am 54 years old and have been in the construction earthmoving since I was 15 .
Cat IMO is the best well built , most comfortable equipment made .
In saying that I can’t get it past my brain that Finning has such a terrible attitude towards customers and not giving a crap .
Been going on for a number of years and it’s not me as they have lost so many long term employees over such a terrible attitude. You can’t be placed in product support role for instance and not get any support from employer? “Finning”
This is a management problem and Cat should really look into it as it’s getting worse and worse.
Companies like Komatsu and Deere are picking up more and more market share over this.
Don’t take my word for it and just have Cats marketing department reach out and they will be astounded .
Anyway I hear it all as I hire all kinds of contractors and use all makes and this problem is heard all the time .
PS . I only own a Cat 297C compact loader so can most times work around Finning and the huge cost of dealing with them . Lol
Example.
Gas shock for loader cab lift ?
Finning . $340.00 CA
Smaller supplier .
$125 CA and comes in Cat bag . Sad .

Their response ,

We're very sorry to hear this, Ross. Please send your email, phone and location and we'll pass your information on to our district office for further assistance.

i heard today that they are planning electronic drop boxes. You place your order at the call center. When the parts are shipped you get a text with a code. When the parts arrive at a drop box you can go and pick it up and use your phone to scan and it will open the drop box door. No need for smaller branches anymore. No more actually dealing with a person or going into actual branches. less cost to Finning then. bet the cost of the parts won't show that fact. Sort of like ordering online with Amazon. if you have a issue then.... not sure? if you get the wrong parts...... I guess you just wait some more. Customer service at it's best. I'm thinking Earl BFinning is turning over in his grave
