The connector trail between both staging areas was groomed the other day.
Be sure to look for the FSA girl collecting day passes. She usually sits up off the trail and unfortunately, misses some riders that come from the lower lot.

If she is missing someone they are purposely finding a way to avoid her based on where she was parked last weekend at the end of the road right at the end of the plowed section.

The only other way someone can go is up the plowed road above past the ski guys.

Really they need to collect at the Y so regardless of what lot you park at they are stopping people. Or is that an issue with someone?

Might be. We tried to collect at the bottom of Lumberton a few years ago and caught he!! from forest service.

Someone has complained to Rec and Trails, Forestry, Highways, and anybody else who would listen about where and where not the club can collect. It is an issue they are working on.

It was a bummer for the second day in a row to ride untracked pretty much all day. The trees are glorious, albeit, still a little low on snow. This shot, taken at the Coal Summit, displays the wind drifts that are always a good time up there in the right conditions.

Another great day yesterday. Here is a picture, that in my mind is a good indication of the snow depth and emphasizes my personal feelings of how skinny the snow is in the Elk Valley. Some say it is the best they have seen and riding conditions are great, others say it is terrible and requires a mega dump. The snow is skinny and I have said that from the get-go. In the trees (the tight trees), one can have a great day. Still hazards and one has to be careful and IMHO it isn't game on quite yet. This stump or broken tree, is sticking above the snow 4' (more or less). It is normally covered.

Saying what I said above, we had a great day yesterday. Lots of untracked in the trees still remains but it is getting harder to find. A great groom by Mickey (Foothills Silva Culture) and with the cold, there was a great set up. Nice sunshine, warm in the trees, and windy/cold up top in the open.

Looks like a nice day was had by all. Is the top photo taken from Matheson Ridge looking towards the Koocanusa with Mt Broadwood on the left? Always interesting trying to figure where some of the photos were taken.

It is from Leitch Ridge across the creek in front of the Rolling Hills cabin. It is looking towards the west and Koocanusa would be over the last mountains in the background.

Is there access from the Corbin side this year? Just coming for a day trip and would like to ride from this side if possible since Coal Creek is not open yet. Any info helps!

Cheers

You were right about the snow being skinny Doug. I can't remember a trip we've taken out here in the past 10 years at this time of the year where the snow has been this low. Lots of trees and rocks either sticking out or barely covered. Found a little untouched today which made it a bit better but we were getting pretty far back.

Picked up one of the poor FWA guys on the trail on our way down. Sled broke and he was going to try walk or ride the trail down from their turnoff. We gave him a lift and he was extremely appreciative. He would have been walking a while.

I have heard they are riding the pipeline like normal to get to the Wrangler's but I haven't ridden it myself so I don't know what the conditions are like.

At least if the dude had to walk, it was all down hill.................hahahahaha. It was nice that you came along at the right time.

Someone agrees with me about the skinny snow and will actually come out and say it! It has been a long drought and a lot of traffic resulting in less than stellar conditions. I've got to find another couple days of untracked trees for my flatlanders so that the big grins will still be there when they go home.
