About 1.5in of light fluffy snow on the ground in the Eckville area this morning. Trucks were still rolling by at bedtime last night. Lots of grain remaining in the fields nearby. Good luck guys

1100 acres of canola left standing with a good 10" of snow on top of it. I'm scared to look. This starting to be worse then two years ago.

And no.
We just decided we were drying everything first week of September.
Anytime it would go through a combine we rolled.

Combined for 20 hours straight yesterday got 275 acres off and finished the canola at 6 this morning as it started snowing got 400 standing wheat to get once weather turns lotta boys here 4000 plus some guys 10000 still

I really feel bad for all the farmers out there, just heard on the evening news that only about 40% of Alberta crops are harvested. Not good, I hope the weather turns in your guys favor. Hopefully it's not too late.

Is that a GT RB800 dryer?

I just picked one up and are looking for info on settings to take canola that is 12% to dry. Any input would be appreciated.

Sure is.

I was drying canola today.

Was going in the dryer at 12-12.5%

Canola was at 5C to start and I have it shut off at 31C.

Plenum temp is set at 70C.

1-1.5 hrs dry time depending on ambient conditions.

I find with Canola all the moisture comes out at once when it gets up into that 30-35C range so you really have to be on the ball not to over dry. Where as wheat the drying curve is more linear.

My dryer is on natural gas so you may get better performance than me if your on propane.

Well I aim for 9.5% but I over shoot usually and end up at 8.5%.

I have a 1000rpm pto installed in the tractor so it just idles.

Start your tractor and have someone watch the display.

Modulate the throttle.

The computer will tell you when you are going too fast or too slow.
Mark those two rpms down.

If its really warm out or you wanna burn alot of gas crank up the rpm to max.

I usually run min fan rpm, as I don't find it dries alot faster at max rpm.

Once the plenum is up to temp the high fire will rarely kick in.

Once your plenum temp is at setpoint and the high fire solinoid valve closes watch the plenum temp on the display.

If it continues to climb you have to turn down your regulator.

If your high fire constantly kicks in then you need to up your regulator set pressure.

Takes some time to get that set properly.

And once you got it set you can fine tune for ambient conditions by changing your fan rpm as needed.

Up to 5 days of warm, clear conditions are forecast, which could advance the harvest considerably. It would be the first harvest break for farmers since mid-September. However for the next 1-3 days more rain and snow was predicted.
