So guys I am thinking of upgrading my air drill next year. What are everyones thoughts on the drills they use now. Right now I have a Bourgault 5710 with MRB's and a 5300 tank. What I don't like about the drill is the poor trash clearance in chemfallow ground. I like to put my urea through the banders and my blend with the seed. I find the banders are major high maintenance with always adjusting scraper height and jamming from little rocks flipping up between the disc and bander frame. I am looking at Deere and Flexicoil. What are everyones thoughts?:noidea:

We are having second thoughts about out JD conserva pac. It isn't clearing trash so well. The 430bus Tank is to small and the auger is a POS.

Same thoughts i had after my demo last year with the conserva pack. I just found the 3310 and the 6450 tank better in all aspects compared to the johndeer

I like what my neighbours new seed hawk is doing. With the new drill being narrower and their tanks have really nice options, I would say its worth a look. FYI dont wait to long to order thats how I ended up buying green.

Any New Holland owners out there with an opinion?

We have a new cart this year. We really like the setup of the New Holland, as we're able to fill all three tanks, and have the hopper in the same place for each one.
That being said, they did have a slight software Issue on the variable rate carts this year. It seemed to be better after they came and upgraded the software.

I guess I should talk about the drill as well. We have a 60' P2060 drill, and really like it. Very nice to store, with it being the same height as the cart when in transport. Have to make sure the hoses are routed right so that they don't get pinched when going between field and transport position.

Neighbour had software issues as well this year. Do you just back up like a heavy harrow to unfold or what? Does the 2040 fold up like a normal drill or back like the 2060?

It's all hydraulic.
I'm not sure about the 2040.

Tell me more about this "software" issue boys. Our new planter had variable rate drive and we are pissed about how it worked. Deere is still trying to rectify the situation. I think it has something to do with switching to different frequencies like everyone was forced to do this spring.

Anybody else in Alberta done there seeded land report for AFSC crop insurance yet? Why after how many years do they have to change the format of the forms? Its no wonder people are frustrated with farming more and more every year and all the convaluted paperwork that goes with it. Sheeeesh...

Ken, With the New Holland 2050 drill, it folds up like a normal drill. Can only get them up to 52 feet wide though.

Seriously guys, what were they having trouble with before they fixed the software?

On the New Holland tank? It would mess with the monitor, and say the fan was anywhere from 400, to 24,000 rpm.
It would also say that the rollers would stop turning. We would always get the correct acres though. Here's hoping we have no skips.

The thing we were having trouble with was our row command shutting off periodically. Also when we came to a stop the drives would continue to turn and drop seed in a pile, then when we would push quick start and take off it wouldnt start seeding right away. Usually it would skip what it piled up when we stopped. If that makes sense, example, if it kept turning and dumped 8 seeds when we stopped it wouldnt plant for the next 4 feet since thats where those 8 seeds were suppose to be.

Yeah 52 ft is to much for our hills. They have a 2040 model though. Talked to my neighbour today who has a 2060 grill and he wants to trade to a Bourgault now after 2 years with that drill. Says he has lots of breakdowns and even the rubber coming off the packers. Seems like everyone isn't completely happy what they are pulling these days.

Had a neighbor with a JD conservapac with similar symptoms, would go and put the drill in the ground and the cart would quit. Never solved the problem, kept seeding without variable rate. That being said other similar drills do not have any issues. The problem as I see it is that the technology is to new and there is limited to no expertise at the dealerships yet! And, us as producer become the test pilot's.
