Just back from 2 weeks of camping. Looked at the crops and seriously thought about loading trailer again and heading back to the mountains. Anybody talk to Crop Insurance? Our county was declared a Ag Disaster Area last week. Wondering when AFSC will let us know if we can write off our crops this early?

Been a dry, crappy, summer. Sold yearlings a month early, this last Monday, the 26th. It actually worked out. Now we just keep trying to put up enough hay to get through the winter. A few showers would really help the hay millet.

At the 11 minute mark, the yearlings that Corbitt Wall mentions in his "Feeder Flash" report are some of the ones that we sold. I wish my dad would was still alive to have seen this sale. He liked big checks.

Yeah I'm gonna call them tomorrow and see what they are doing and get them to give me some direction. A lot of my canola never made pods. Fields are full of burnt blooms still on the plants.

Basically she told me if I want to abandon my crop I have to leave test strips and they will get to them when they get to them. She told me they are 2 1/2 months behind right now. She said I need to do a yield calculator and I better be in the good or I'm gonna have issues with them. Tell me again why I pay a big premium every year??

That sucks Ken... so it's a real crap shoot. And if you decide to abandon then they can use that as a loop hole to get out of paying

They will still pay Mike but you will be forced to take what they say and no arguing with the agronomist so need to be totally sure

Started on dryland barley yesterday. Averaging about 20-25bu/ac, 46lbs/bu. Heard a rumour that feed barley is $11.25/bu picked up right now.

Yeah it's actually not that bad considering the price. Here's the quick math between yield this year and last year....

2020 was 120bu/ac @ 58lbs/bu. 160ac made 23,200 bushels (corrected to 48lbs)
2021 is 25bu/ac @ 46lbs/bu. 160ac makes 3,833 bushels (corrected to 48lbs)

Finished up with all the dry land barley that wasn't too green and did a test on some dry land durum. Looks to be about 15-20bu/ac and testing at 17% moisture and 61lbs/bu. I'm scared to swath anything this year as the stand is thin and the straw is short. Price of durum this morning is $14.80/bu.

Family near Drumheller reporting 10-15 bushels/acre and headers covered in some new green worm never seen before . Also another type of worm burrowing into the kernel and eating it hollow. YIKES

Yeah the bugs are crazy this year. Grasshoppers are really bad in my area.

I probably got 5% dockage in my pea sample just from hoppers. Lol

I heard recently the bugs were worse this year as a result of farmers abandoning crops and not using pesticides as a result. Any truth to this?
