What blows me away is the prices these guys haul grain for.. I offered to haul it myself but after the number they gave me for freight, there was not much in it to make a profit.. let alone get paid for your time and breakdowns

Out of the twenty loads they hauled there was tires blown, airbags blown, and a rear axle seal gone with service call.. his text this morning applies that this was a free bee job, But still offered to haul new crop at same price..

They were hauling oil and rented trains threw there covid slowdown.. to stay alive..

Times are real tuff that is forsure

Yes my 2 guys both bought new matching trailers and told me last trailers before they retire. Not much money in it anymore and hard work. They bring their own loader and drag for flat bottom bins and dig them out as that is part of the service. Hard working pair.

Im in the grain hauling buisness myself. Its getting harder to make a profit forsure. My costs before i turn a wheel $330 a month for insurance $216 a month for registration $1500 trailer payment. Then add fuel on wich avearages $3500 a month regular maintnance wear and tear and putting some away for replacement. Not a lot left at the end of the month. Like you producers the replacement cost of equipment has sky rocketed. My truck new in 2005 was $140k same truck today $230k. Put a new set of steer tires on last month $1200.00. Parts are crazy expensive aswell. I know you producers are facing the same costs. Thats why when these guys show up out of the blue with rented trailers cutting rates because everything else has slowed down and they are trying to stay above water i cringe. Got a constuction company in my area that bought a couple old trains to try to keep going. Been aruond to local producers cutting rates trying to get buisness doing a lot of broker work for cut rates. Seen thier equipment pretty positive it would not pass saftey. When you run for cheap no money for propper reapairs. Makes you wonder if they even have insurance! There are guys around who have been doing it for a long time provide good service and are dependable and trustworthy like the guys you use Snopro. See them at the terminals around Carseland lots good guys. This is the problem with trucking guys jump in cut rates try to stay ahead of the bank but only last six months to a year then gone.
I make a living at it but have to really watch what the costs are and have a sharp pencil. A lot like farming.
On a good note getting a nice rain here and things are looking really good. Lets hope for a bumper crop and high grain prices so we can keep doing what we love.

Yes we also hauled custom grain back in the day for over a decade(95-05) and made a nice clientele to only be cut by guys like your talking about.. pretty sad and threw the towel in.. we paid steel off at least made a few bucks

They are not bad, had them about a dozen years.. replaced the wind meter a few times, acuracy on rain gauge is pretty close to gov site.. they came out with a newer version of the gauge this last year and here good stuff about it.. need 110 power for the hub to transmit it to internet( 130$) good for about 300' total distance from hub

Can set up to 8 different monitors on one hub.. I run 6 humidity sensors on my tops of air bins to watch humidity during drying.. gives you a great indication when air has got moisture down

Like anything, takes time to understand and operate everything, but it's pretty reliable

Awhattttttr.. you could be on to something, or you had to much coffee this morning..lol

When I harvested in Auzzy I met a farmer and became friends occer the years talking on the web..

He signed up a solor project a few years back andjust mentioned how well it's doing, said the 2400ac project will net him a bumper lentil crop at 35c/lb every year for the next 25 years with renewel after that ..

Definitely something to take advantage of when opertuinity arises

Heard an interesting tidbit today.
So I guess there was a funeral for those hutterite kids that perished in the river incident.
Over 1000 people in attendance, people got sick and now there has been a 50% positive test rate since they started testing here.
Imagine it should hit the news shortly.

Crazy amount of moisture. 10-12” since April 1st. Little to no heat(+25,+30). I have seen a few good crops by Gibbons (had there crops in early). The beekeepers must be going nuts, no flowers, no heat, and millions of angry , stuck in the hive. Need to go visit relatives in Watson, Wynyard Saskatchewan see how the crops are out there.

Heard the same thing.. hutts not thinking very smart.. remember that when you buy there products, heard they are struggling with covid and there life style, incubation nightmare
