Just wanted to take a minute and run this "US beef" export to China deal by you all. I know in the last months there was a deal in the works to open the Canadian market back up to export to China, but it seems like there was some sort of odd delivery detail in the deal. I don't know how that's going, now. Not up to speed.

Anyway, the deal has been made for the US to start to export beef to China, now. The odd thing is, there aren't any exact details about what it takes to qualify US born cattle to be eligible for export after slaughter. They're required to be "uniquely identified" to be traced back to their "birth farm", but there isn't any specific information as to how. Canadian cattle imported into the US are only required to be traced to a port of entry to be qualified to be slaughtered and shipped to China. That makes sense, since Canadians have a very good source ID already in place. What I find odd, is that Mexican cattle brought into the US, are also eligible to be slaughtered and shipped to China, with only a traceback to the port of entry they came through. Since when does Mexico have any kind of source identification? WTF?

Here's a couple links.

Here's one that shows boxed beef from "Greater Omaha Packing" that is on it's way to China. I guarantee that the beef in the box either came from Canada or Mexico. I understand that access gained, or renewed, to any market is a big plus, especially the most populated. I just don't understand how in the world Mexico gets put on par with Canada, and the US gets an extra demerit below Mexico, even.

In crop done up in the central. Was quite a run around this year. Some should have been sprayed sooner but couldn't get on the fields. should get a week off or so before the fungicide gets rolling.

Peas and barley are turning and burning fast in our area. Maybe 2 weeks for them. I would expect in the 15-20 bu range for peas over here as well.

No reporting from the fellow Southern dirt sniffers. How's the harvest.

We are a week to two from desiccating peas. Things look good to excellent in our area but I feel that this is a small area.
