Can drive with your knees to but doesn't mean it's a good idea
I drove home 6 hours one time with my knees just to prove a point. So it can be done, and it can be a good idea.

Next you're going to tell me texting while driving is dangerous
Not at all. Especially if you have both hands free because you are driving with your knees. Still leaves a free hand for your coffee.
FernieHawk what year of f150? How far you driving? I'm doing about 2.5-3.5 hours to varying areas. But occasionally (2-3 times a season) 5-6hrs depending on roads. I currently have a Tacoma pulling a 2 place and my thinking is that it will be way safer with a deck and all the weight on a track.

The age old debate rolls on I see. At the end of the day it's you that is assuming that the risk and liability, if you are overloaded and have a wreck, good luck with your insurance. Do your research and if you have a new Reg cab or even Ext cab long box 1/2 ton, chances are you'll be fine on the scale anyways. It's the idiots with 174's on 6' decks and no extensions that scare me, regardless of whether it's a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton. With that much weight behind the rear axle you have lost half of your vehicles handling capabilities, good luck avoiding a moose or a wreck when you've only got 1000lbs of front axle weight, idiots.
