Is there actually a sled cabin further up the valley? I noticed on the little maps and back country maps that there is one. I haven't been up that way though. Usually just go in through RP/koko. Is there much riding up there on the west side or mostly old roads?

Ya that's what I was thinking of doing Doug. Picking up a '15 163 T3 this week so might take it out for a test rip to see what all I need to fix on it.

I sent you a PM with other directions. Just thought if I sent you up the main trail it would be easier for you.

There is yes, but it's only open to active members it's more of an overnight/weekend cabin. Personally we only use it in the summer

Our warmup cabin is now functional and stocked up with firewood, the trail has been groomed and you can expect to pay trail fees! $20 a day or $40 for the season, Enjoy the holidays!

went to Elkford friday.. snow was decent, trails were great, freshly groomed.. The conditions were early but there was decent cover and fresh to play in up at Smith basin... we had a throttle break and had to go early but we had a ton of fun.. was our first time there, but we will be back. Some of the most beautiful terrain that we have ridden. If anyone is thinking about going, do it. you wont be disappointed.

thanks Callan for helping us.. Still owe you a beer!

I haven't ridden Elkford yet this year but a little further south the snow is light and fluffy and sitting on top of a solid base. When one is on the throttle, the sled is sinking quite deep in the snow and the tagging of hazards is quite common. Cal has a good point, "knowing the area", and if you are riding the burn in Fernie it is a gong show for hazards. Other places are manageable.
