Re: Edmonton Rally Opposing the Bighorn Park Proposal - Reschedulled Tues Feb 26, 201

Just trying to add some thought of constructive criticism... but what good is having a rally in a remote location? I am all for stopping any closures or allowing this environment garb to be forcefully shoved down our throats.

its like the oil and gas rig convoys, sorry but what a waste of time and diesel guys... unless you are driving your rigs all the way to Ottawa and parking them all on the streets there, plugging everything solid for them or unhooking a few worthless trailers you have out back and leaving them on parliament hill, NOBODY cares, at least the ones that call all the shots.

we need to take a few pages out of the Indian Affairs bible, when natives want something, they get it! Why? Because if government doesn't listen, they will shut everything down, close bridges, rails.. you name it, that's how you win your way and get heard. Remember Idle no More, that ridiculous sit down on the bridge got them a private audience with the PM in ONE day!

so what will happen with this rally? I'm by no means gods gifted smatest man, but I do know, it might get..maybe a minute on the local news, and government officials will just laugh. Think of how unpopular Notley is and NDP still do as they please.
i don't mean, run out and destroy stuff, but really stuff needs to be shut down, kill governments capacity to generate income and they will be running into each other screaming like chickens. I know it's drastic, but do any of you really think the government cares? They already knew you weren't their voter to begin with.

Everything a local/rural guy loves these days is under attack.. hunting, fishing, atv, farming, shooting, masculinity, we are all small individual groups with no voice, so we are getting manhandled, and will continue to be until there is fierce pushback.

so if many feel they are accomplishing something by signing e-petitions, or attending a rally in their back yard with likeminded friends, the writing is on the wall. So unless this rally speaker has ideas to force government to listen, I have my doubts.

so unless someone can chime in on how it's actually effective, my crew will sit this one out. I've been losing the gun rights battles for years too, so I'm a little tired of "hoping" government will listen to common sense.

You have some really valid points, maybe even hit the nail on the head. My one question for you though is this, what’s your solution? These rally’s and convoys are a step in the right direction, but you’re saying it’s not enough. Instead of listing obstacles give us some solutions!!

I think a rally is a starting point, someplace to get organized, not treat it as the principal solution, hoping officials will see a gathering of folks, they won't care. But if one were to lead us in an actual organized effective demonstration, where we can put some hurt into government funding, impede their way home from work, or delay the priemer from a jet setting holiday, that would intrigue me.
but without support in numbers, it'll just be a few that will fall on swords for the rest, getting arrested or fined for nothing, if there are large enough numbers, only then can it be achieved. It can't be anything really bad, because most of us have lots to lose, but some sort of rose briers needs to be shoved in their pants..

If we didn't show a fight they would just go ahead and close everything. The big issue here is there has been no consultation, there just ramming it through, we are showing this. If everyone had the attitude that I'm not fighting this and sitting out we would be easily defeated and would loose every area. Next is the Cadomin and Brule area and it will work all the way to the top. And Y2Y and CPAWS gets what they want a corridor from Yellowstone to Yukon. We need to show a stand to this and keep it on everyone's mind, elections are right around the corner and the backlash of this will bring on change with a different government. So from a fellow backcountry user I urge all to attend this means a lot to the future of the use of the backcountry by all.

Hate to be the Debbie downer, but they are and will slowly close everything.

just look at gun control as a prime example. They don't run out and ban everything, that will create chaos, they simply remove one group at a time, first it was the full-autos, then certain barrel sizes, then ones that seem scary, now they are after semi-autos.. slowly but surely we will be down to pointed sticks and rocks under licence.

government are not smart individuals, they just copying other examples, so they are systematically removing areas, one area at a time as not to create mass disturbance, that's what they fear. But a few grumbling here and there is what they expect.
driving trucks around like oil+gas, or us hanging out one afternoon stomping our feet in the corner like 3yr olds is just simply laughable.
consultation, seriously? Do you seriously think they give a sh*t about what anyone thinks? They've already made up their mind man! I bet it's been in the works (along with other areas) for quite some time.

Also, in a way we did it to ourselves, with idiot goons churning up entire creek beds, winching every tree into man made mud holes, and turning every skeg upside down, not to mention draining oil on the ground after getting swamped...all the while, posting videos, thinking they are internet stars!
