I think you misunderstood my point. I didn't say there was shortcuts taken on existing pipelines. What I am trying to say is that to move forward there has to be a diligent process to avoid future issues. For example, Flatiron won a bid from BC Hydro to build install high voltage towers. Flatiron bought the towers from India and unfortunately they failed due to cheap steal and collapsed caused major delays and cost overruns (I believe it was a 3/4 of a billion dollar project). This is what I am trying to say that needs to be avoided. As for the tailing ponds, not comparing oil and that industry but as an example of what happens when private companies go unchecked and government is nonchalant over it. BTW, for the record, I am not in favour of rail either especially since it affects my business in a great way (lack of car movements for grain).

What short cuts are you referring to? Unmonitored? This does not happen in Canada like it does stateside. Not saying we've never had a pipeline rupture here, but it is a rarity up here due to strict policies put in place by the NEB, which controls interprovincial pipelines across Canada. In Alberta we have the AER as the provincial body governing activity within our borders, with our own set of rules. How does a tailings pond breach at a mine corelate to a pipeline leak? There are fail safes called ESDs installed at intervals along mainline pipelines that electronically monitor for a pressure change(drop) and the valves close automatically. Yes a spill is possible but a brand new pipeline will be low on the risk scale.

Believe it or not Alison Redford and her new job???? or what ever it is. I am sure prime minister fluff and Knothead approved this as well. Hard to believe you are still getting screwed over by Redford, and no she did not go to jail although she should have.

I always said we as Albertans need to separate as that so called Quebec has done. But in turn Govern our own province just like the Swiss do if we don't agree with the people elected and what they think should happen it don't happen unless we the people as a whole agree. This is the Best Idea ever and I am sure a lot of Albertans would support and vote for this.

This would totally work just like the Swiss do the people tell the elected officials if its a go or not. This would not create a third party as it would unite the two parties as one. And then start from the ground up, the only stumbling block would be people in those parties to quite being so greedy and if they truly want to represent the people of Alberta then Unite as one and stop all this bull**** that's going on. We as Albertans will govern our own province and will say who gets transfer payments etc... I sure don't see that Quebec or anyone else giving Alberta payments anytime in the near future. Therefore lets Govern our own province how we as Albertans see fit.

One More Oil Boom
"Oil's going down and the cost of living is going up, I'm pinching for pennies and our president still sucks. Work is slowing down and I'm fighting to survive. To put food on the table, for 3 kids and a wife.
Lord please give me, just one more oil boom. And I promise I won't piss all the money away. Lord please let it come back soon, so I can keep the wolves at bay.
I took a pay cut, now I'm going for broke. How we'll make it through the winter, I still don't know. Gasoline is under 2 bucks and people think it's great. What they don't understand, is for some it's way too late.
Lord please give me, just one more oil boom. And I promise I won't piss all the money away. Lord please let it come back soon, so I can keep the wolves at bay.
Millions are getting laid off, and companies are closing doors. My paychecks are getting smaller, but Uncle Sam is getting more. Lord have mercy, on the working class. Opec be damned, they can kiss my oilfield ass.
Lord please give us, just one more oil boom. And I promise I won't piss all the money away. Lord please let it come back soon, so I can keep the wolves at bay.
The light at the end of the tunnel, it's getting darker every day. Rigs are stacking in the weeds, and my rent is barely being payed. I never ask for much, but I have just one request. Drilling as far as the eye can see, and low oil prices put to rest.

pretty sad after years of prosperity a person did not put money away for a rainy day. Was talking to a guy a month or so ago and he was complaining about his son who had worked in the patch for 13 year (he is 34), made $13,500 per month and was laid off last July. By the beginning of October he was asking for money from his father as he could not cover his $10 grand a month payments. Yikes!!!!!

there must be a dozen different versions of that, every time the patch sh!its the bed. remember when it started to get slow here in AB and the yanks were all bragging how busy they still were on those rig moving pages?? everybody told them it was coming, but they were too arrogant to heed any warnings.
