Ventured up Owls today - headed out around 8:30 - meet groomer at 5 k - not really sure why there grooming in morning - to me it doesnt give snow a chance to set up ! maybe my thinking wrong !?? anyways - headed up toward Blue and at 19k and then turned off into meadows - was a couple inches of fresh over night since we tracked it up the day before - got out of meadows and headed over to Blue trail - then the ice fog settled in and every km u had to clean ur goggles off - was a annoyance ! Visibility got bad and deep perception of snow was a liitle iffy ! Made way to Blue cabin alot of sleds were playing in the trees just off trail ! I did venture of myself but didnt c the snow line very well just off trail ! Got outta that with a little help and and made our way to a very white out Blue Lake cabin ! didnt stay there long and venture back toward Owls - Went in the back way and found some very deep snow - 2ft plus through trees at the base of ecco - Finally made it to Owls head cabin where its was blowing and snowing pretty hard - chatted for at bit and then through the few small lake at then back on the a nightmare - trail was - brutal for there to main trail at 16.5 k and from there to bottom wasnt much better - not sure how many sleds were on it today but my legs are feeling every dip !

"Back in the day" when I was grooming for the Club, I suggested and tried the late afternoon grooming, as was just previously mentioned in one of the posts. I did it for a month and it was loved by all however, the powers to be had the argument that the snow wouldn't "set up" enough with such a early groom. I called BS and said who cares, the new trail is torn to shred's by a handful of morons in the first couple hours soooooooooooooooooooo? My reasoning for the early groom is exactly for that reason mentioned by so many, so that the trail is at least "half groomed" when sledders are starting to come down the hill. If the groomer gets to its destination by early evening and then heads down, the snow will set up good enough for those same morons to tear it to shreds the next morning. I had more thumbs up when the trail was half groomed by weary sledders coming off the hill than Justin Trudeau at a pot smoke in!! No selfies though!

Grooming was better in the past for sure. Last few years it's bad and blamed on low snow. Putting every one to owl and blue on same trail, running around selling Sicamous as the greatest sled destination on the planet and now the crowds are here�� Want to compete with Revelstoke then they need to do a two time a day groom during the holiday periods and do a little snow road building.
Bone heads spinning all the snow off doesn't help things out. They will all be gone home in a few days and all will be good again.

That road is beat to rat chit and the early staging up higher turns it to ice. Really need some logging on the owls side so that road actually gets fixed up. I don't see the club having the funds to give it the attention it needs.

Well it may take the talk of a dirt bike track and new big lot opened at 2.5 km to get some of the road fixed
If the dirt bike track goes through, then the road has to be widened for 2 lanes - up -down

For what its worth, Billdozer and I tried Queest, again, yesterday. I would have posted yesterday but by the time I got home and got in to the New Years swing of things I forgot! Basically we went to Queest for lunch, that was about it. Fogged in, again, we made it to just below the towers and you couldn't see 10' and flat light soooooooooooo, we opted out and looked lower for something. While most of the "family" stuff was totally tracked out and hard as rock, there were in fact many spots in the tree's that were untracked, but with crappy vis we chose the safe route and didn't go to far. We did venture lower where there was some vis and found some delectable spots that will be amazing, once we get another 6' or so of snow! I think sledders like Tex know where I'm talking about and its all out of the Caribou Closure area. Other than that, we did one BCAA call on the way down for a nice new Yammy that was off road right. Got in behind a sledder on the way down that went like a raped ape on the straight stretches and took naps in the corners. I finally managed to drift by him on a corner, yup, Alberta plate on the flap, go figure! Snowing like a bugger when we finally headed down, trail was rock hard and flat as a pancake, good job again groomer guys!! Happy New Year all!

Btw I followed some BC plates doing the same thing on the way home from Vernon the other day. I chose not to tailgate his azz and rather waited patiently at a safe distance until I saw an opportunity to safely pass. You BC guys crack me up sometimes.

Ah the self entitled BC folk speak out once again lol. I for one am Canadian. My passport says so.
