Any one that has ridden queest know what km you have to unload at
Agreed! I say load your sled and go earn your early season miles, right teacher!
Wasn't up there today lol, smart azz lolHot off the presses, don't go sledding, yet! With everyone else afraid to get dirty up the hill I opted to take a trip up Blue, on Big Red! After a quick java with Billdozer and a stitch and bitch session about all our old people aches and pains, I hit the trail with low to no expectations and I wasn't disappointed!
Road report: straight dirt crap road up to 4km, then to 10km it was a combo of snow/ice/mud/gravel crap, then to 13km a mixture of ice/snow crap, and it wasn't until 14 km where the first couple of trucks parked, enough snow to go on without the carbides finding rocks and mud but very crusty crap and not much you could grab on the side of the trail. The next truck was parked at 16km and the snow definitely better but there was no going off the trail, anywhere, still water showing in ditches just about all the way up. I only went to the turnoff to the cabin, just a hard packed trail going in and while I could have gone all the way I didn't want to embarrass the couple of Cat guys by parking beside them at the cabin and saying "boy, that was a heck of a ride in eh!!" I guess it was a good thing they headed up early in the season on the packed trail so they could make it up there! Did I hear Tex say something??
Anyways, keep em covered for a few more weeks kids, it ain't purrty up there! FYI they are logging out of Caribou Lk which comes out at 10km on the Blue Lk trail, road is pure mud once the old sun comes out!
Thanks for the reportQueest report!! Well, sort of, most of my time today was spent getting my quad back up a hill I shouldn't have gone down, but thats just me. Beauty morning for a trail ride, no snow on road until about 4km and then it turned to glare ice up to about 6km, after that it was 4-6" on the road and that was it, and a wee bit nippy! Snow that was there much better than at Blue, almost powdery (is that a word??). Anyways, my crystal clear morning was disrupted by two trucks with snow bikes on that were in front of me going up the hill. I think they lit up a pound or so of weed on their way up and it stunk so bad I finally had to turn off at 12km, what a couple of morons. Do you really have to get wasted before you start sledding, really?? No wait, it was medicinal, my bad!
Anyways, I did the back road thingy and only wound up getting stuck down a hill for about 2 hours. Nothing to winch to, and no, the snow wasn't that deep, but the quad continually got high centered on the hard crust in the middle of my track! Was great going downhill at 25 mph but uphill not so much! Kinda reminded me of sledding with Lawn Dart, exhausted after a couple hours of digging! The road I was trying to go down comes out just below the Saddle at Queest, so would give me a bit of an indication as to snow depth. Where I got stuck, wind drift included, was a foot to foot and a half, but hard as a rock.
Once back out on the main road, I zipped up to 18km where the dopers parked their trucks, after tearing up the somewhat decent trail going up to the cabin. I could have made it to the cabin but didn't want to encounter the dope stink again so headed back down and spoke to a nice young couple who had just loaded up at 16km, the spot where NORMAL people would load/unload. Great report from them, they made it back to the lake this AM, about a 2' base everywhere, nicely settled down. They were up a week ago or so when we had the big dump of snow, said there was a good 4' of powdery stuff but rocks/logs were a problem, and they made it all the way back to the Golf Course, that's decent.
Definitely nicer snow at Queest than was at Blue, still way to thin for this cowboy, but with snow on the way next week its looking like maybe 3rd week of November for a trail ride, maybe! View attachment 229759View attachment 229760
