What is the lifespan of the E-TEC engines? I was looking at buying a used E-TEC sled and curious about what would be considered too many miles.
I got 3,200 mi on my 06 HO 800 and blew the crank. The brother in law had 2,200 on his 2011 P- TEC before he had to rebuild the top end. I’ve been told the ETEC platform is substantial more reliable. Can anyone chime with better info?

I've heard of several with 10000 km plus. Some with 2000 km. Your mileage may vary...

Will depend on how you operate it or how it was operated? Type of fuel and oil used, maintenance etc. My buddy had one with 6400 kms on, we then big bored it and it currently has 16,000 or 18,000 k on it. Just did full rebuild.

i will share my experience

skidoo oil all the time... warm up as the gauge says all the time, clutch rebuild all the time. ride aggressive

rebuilt entire motor just past 10000km.

I would say anything past appox 9000km you should be looking at a rebuild. buying anything under 2500km would not be a concern with proper maintenance

I agree 10 k or close to it, remember most mountain sleds are to the bar 80% of its life, lol

You rebuilt your entire motor just past 1000 km? Did you mean 10,000 km

Brp oil from new always warmed up and ride easy on the trail to alpine anyway. Sled never seen any abuse before up to temp for a good amount of time. Rode as hard all day 2800 km and crank went out of phase. I’ve seen/repaired lots of etec with rod bearing issues and cranks out of phase few top ends but not near as many as the old ptec obviously

Most mountain riders think they're to the bar 80% of the time but the reality is they're at the cabin 80% of the time lol

Traded my last etec in at 6,200 km with 150 psi in each hole but 0.0095" of crank runout. Still ran great and made good power but its days were numbered.

5500kms on my 15.
Crank run-out went wild.
.012”
Warranty job after the season ends.
Runs great, just a little hard on clutch parts.

I probably have one of the higher mileage 800 etec. My 2013 163 has over 20,000KM on it. Top end was done at 10K and a week before it blew at 15,000K the dealer was trying to get it warrantied as it has a .01 run out. As long as compression and runout are good I wouldn't be worried about a higher mileage 800.

Sold a 2012 with 3300 miles, piston update at 1500 miles. Bumped into the new owner, currently has 5000 miles on original crank and updated pistons, my 14 has 2400 miles original pistons and crank. Wifes 2016 has only 900 miles no issues and my 17 850 has 750 miles and no engine issues yet

I've been asking guys and there's a few things that can cause grief early. The pull cord bolts, housing bolts can break or back out and get pulled into the stator. The stator inner sleeve can slide on some years. Plug wires after a few years can get brittle. I ride with a few over 2000km and the '11 with 3500 just had the housing bolts wreck everything...

2014 freeride 5200kms, did a top end at 4150kms for preventative, I was 12lbs compression low on 1 side, rings were torched.

Rebuilt with dual ring wossners and hasn't missed a beat

I've heard people say to do a top end rebuild when the motor hits 3k miles but I don't see why, mine has 2700+ miles and going strong. I'll ride it another season and see what happens.
