here's the list of campgrounds to "avoid" due to alcohol bans...

A liquor ban will be in effect at the following provincial parks and recreation areas, commencing 12:00 noon on thursday, may 20th until 6:00 pm on monday, may 24th:

Aspen beach provincial park
cypress hills provincial park
dillberry lake provincial park
garner lake provincial park
ghost reservoir provincial recreation area
jarvis bay provincial park
miquelon lake provincial park
pigeon lake provincial park
wabamun lake provincial park
whitney lakes provincial park

hmmmmmmmmm, that pretty much sums up most of alberta's fine campground facilities........ Gonna have to hit sbr's secret lair, i guess...........lol

Sorry, yes, I don't mean "all" old people, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't a bunch of 20-30 something year olds complaining about intoxicated campers. There are definitely some cool old farts out there but not enough of them!

YEAH its the young fuggers who destroy the campgrounds after getting all wasted.....

in Ontario there has been no drinking at parks for 25 years,,, it suks for the normal people who dont wreck chit....

thats why kids smoke weed,,,, no age limit gov does it to themselves,,, legalize it....

I don't know, I'm not all that old , but I've never found the guys who get loaded and leave broken bottles or smashed vehicles etc laying in the bush, to be cool. Those types are where these rules come from.

Growing up in the hub of May long party country, we heard about it all, from broken cars to broken people. Can't even get out there on May long anymore without going through a check stop, and I can't say I blame the RC's for doing it. We ALL want to camp, drink, quad, have a great time, and we all should be safe doing so.

Thankfully, can't see these rules ever being applied to private campgrounds:beer:

It's been coming for years. Waaay to many dipshits out there. If you want to party until 4AM, camp in the bush. Lot's of people want to camp without being involved in a party and be forced to listen to shitty music.
If I never stay in a campground again it will be to soon, to many fugtards that don't respect other people.

You'd probably be surprised at who it was - I would think there are some young urbanite new age opinionated Jetta jockeys that made their voices heard on this issue. They are the same ones that can't understand why you want to have an OHV or a dirtbike, think that Lulu Lemon pants make people think they actually work out, and let their undisciplined kids run around at the park unattended while they sit and sip a Starbucks organic coffee. They want to have a "pure" camping experience, all the while hiking, completing yoga excercises and communing with nature. Drinking and purity cannot co-exist.

While I do not agree with banning alcohol, and I enjoy camping, after recent years I cannot be surprised that this was tabled. Campers drinking to enjoyment is one thing, drinking to excess and chopping down the outhouses and picnic tables for firewood in the middle of the night is another. Burning couches, cars, trespassing, theft, vandalism, the list goes on. With the new online registration system in place and parks already full and waiting lists, it's pretty easy for the govt to do what they want, they hold the power. Too many people took it way overboard and no one else said anything, now we to deal with it.

Slowly but surely the priviledges are being revoked.

Yup, definitely been a long time coming. I haven't spent May Long in a campground since I was 18 and yeah unfortunately at that age I was apart of the crowd that was destroying and being ignorant although I didn't do any of it myself. It's unfortunate for those who are responsible, who can enjoy a few drinks, get a little roudy but be respectful at the same time, that have to be punished for it too you know. But obviously society cannot be fair to everyone, so everyone suffers. Just avoid those campgrounds I guess. Doesnt' seem like many of those campgrounds listed are near popular OHV areas which is a good thing I guess?

thanks for the warning about the check stops, I'll be sure the beers all in coolers in the back, then I can bribe the cops in case they want to ticket me.

This happened right in front of my camp spot at Mclean Creek a couple of summers back . The kid was 19yrs old and pissed to the gills. Got mad at me for taking the keys out of the vehicle and notifying the park ranger. I'm sure he wanted to swing at me but I still had my helmet on :d This clown didn't have a care it the world for my saftey or others. The thought of him running over a kid is sickening to say the least. His parents had to come from Calgary to get him because no one was sober at their site so now they're pissed at me...go figure. The ranger then proceeded to escort the whole group out of the campground with police supervision. This crap happens way to often than not. Be responsible for your actions...be an adult :d

Banff National Park is taking the lead from the province and banning alcohol in its campgrounds on summer long weekends.
Parks Canada staff say they've had too many complaints from campers about intoxicated people ruining their experience in the national park.
Wardens say ever since the provincial parks banned alcohol, people have been coming to Banff to drink and party at campgrounds.
Starting this May long weekend, campers will be greeted by wardens and RCMP.
They won't let anyone into campsites with alcohol.
If campers are caught with booze, fines range from a few hundred dollars, to a few thousand dollars with jail time.
Wardens say they want to prevent incidents before they happen.
"By the time the enforcement level gets involved it's too late, they're too drunk. We've got to deal with them at a higher level of enforcement. If we can get to them before that happens, if we can deal with them at a preventative level at first, and prevent the situation from escalating, then that's better for everyone," said Banff Park Warden Sharon Woods.
This is the first time Banff National Park has implemented a ban.

No drinking in campgrounds? WTF? Where is this being applied? I can see no fires if it is dry but no drinking...thats a bit steep. Glad I don't have to worry about that where I'm going.. :d:beer:

OK...where we going? I was thinking Fallen Timber but gotta check now to see if that's banned as well. Might have to do something else.

They won't allow you to drink or have a fire after 11.p.m as well in Banff park...(Two jack lake) and some others.....So as soon as 11 comes the fire goes out and you sober up ....All this will acomplish is more destruction in the random camp spots by the a holes who don't care for anyone else but themselves....There sure as heck better be more law and order in the random camp areas .fines to the idiots seem to be the only thing that will work,,
I am almost to the point of not wanting to go anywhere on the long weekends
