Downsizing trailers

Looking at seling my fully loaded 2014 mission trailer 24 straightwall and 6.5v, i find myself using the sled deck more and more but really enjoy a trailer to bring a spare sled along. I looking for a trailer that fits 3 154 easily but can squeeze in 4
if need be for the odd trip whats the min trailer size i can get away with whos the tetris king on s&m?

First you have to decide if you want to stay 8.5' wide or go down to a narrow 7 or 7.5' trailer.

I have a 16' enclosed (+4' V Nose) & can easily fit 3 with LOTS of room for gear. Going to see If we can get 4 in there.
I would think that you should be able to fit 4 in an 18' sidewall if it's a deck-over and you don't have the wheel wells to contend with.

Had a deck-over and will never buy one again. Unless you have to tow up forest service roads and need the clearance, there's no reason to have a higher trailer that's less stable in the wind. I'm trailerless right now and have been using a deck, but if I buy another, it'll have fenderwells.

Don't you find the deck over tows nicer since the tires follow the truck and sit in the grooves of the road? Of course its up a bit higher thou...

I like the lower trailer way better, but it's a bit hard to compare due to the other differences in the trailers I've had. Went from a deck-over with lighter axles to a enclosed car hauler with heavy axles. The lower and stiffer trailer tracks way better than my higher trailer ever did. No body roll, and not affected by wind nearly as much. Ramp on the low trailer is also REALLY nice.

I have to agree with Beels - don't think I'd ever want to go back to a deck-over trailer again.

No, like Voodoo said, the lower trailer with less body roll and lower center of gravity wins out. The other thing he mentioned was the lower ramp angles are a LOT nicer too. Like I said before, the only reason to have a deckover trailer is if you need the clearance. Most people don't.

I have a 20x8.5 + 4’ V deck over.

I would not go deck over again. Love the width though. I think mission trailers have the mid deck with the short wheel wells. That would be my next choice to try.

I would gladly deal with the stub wheel wells inside then have all the body roll and wind sail effect.

For me I wouldn’t want a low deck. Too big of wheel wells for my liking.

Also my ramp doors feel so angled. When driving in the front feels like we are going to jump into the opposing wall sometimes. Need more speed to get the long tracks onto the ramp then be quick on the brake at the top of the ramp.

Did you Guys notice a difference in fuel millage from a deck over to mid deck ? I use to have an aluminum 18 ft mission. Absolutely loved it but didn’t matter what truck towed it the fuel millage would drop off horribly. Even with only like two sleds in it.

Every trailer I've ever hooked on to killed the mileage, so I never noticed any difference.

I get 21-22 pulling the 30 foot to vale and back with idling everyday and to the hill 2100km trip, with the sled deck im 18-19 so i hoping to sell the deck and large trailer and just buy a smaller trailer but crazy what they want for these trailers now

I recommend importing your own from States. Nearly all of them come from Indiana or Michigan.

Well purchased a snopro 8.5x16+4 nice little trailer perfect size for what i was looking for

Thinking about selling my Triton clam-shell trailer. My 174 will likely not fit as my 163 just fit. Recently changed the axle to a 3500 lb rating from the 2100 lb.
PM me if anyone is interested. Opens in the front or the rear. This trailer behind my truck uses less fuel than with 2 on the sled deck. Sorry about the hijack but wasn't going to advertise until Fall but if someone is in need?? $4400 OBO, in Calgary.
