Some nice people came by today a bought my tent trailer, but they had a sad story on how and why they bought it. Turns out they had a 5th wheel they bought last summer was plugged in right beside their house right before the May long weekend the fridge caught fire and burnt their trailer down as well as burnt their house down in the middle of the night  they got out with the clothes on their backs. So to rebuild they have recieved some money from insurance to buy a tent trailer and get away for some RnR. Their house and trailer are still sitting a charred remains pending investigation from Dometic which are dragging there feet. Very nice people they are getting back on their feet.
Anywho she told me about the fridge recall and this thing is huge lots of fires. There is only 2 fridge manufacturers Dometic and Norcold so best be checking your fridge to see if it is on the recall notice big range of recalls from 1997-2006 turns out mine is on the recall notice so I got to get it fixed.

Check here you will need your model number and serial number located on the inside of the fridge

Appartently this has been going on for a couple years here is some reading for ya RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07

Some pics of what could happen RV.Net Open Roads Forum: FIRE IN OUR DOMETIC REFER COULD HAVE COST US/pictures

i know a couple in Edson who have a wolf pack trailer and their fridge caught fire a couple months ago, they were lucky as the flames shot out the side melted the access door.the trailer was parked in the carport at the time as she was loading it..could have burnt the house down too.lesson leart here is dont park it too close to any buildings when anything is lit .has any body else had a fire?i took my 5th wheel in to have the floor replaced this spring and when i picked it up i went in it and the gas burner on the stove was on full blast..emptied my large tank..if there was a source of ignition the thing would have blown up really good...thats why there called accidents..they were nice enough too refill the tank but it took a couple of days to vent the smell of propane away:eek:

I got mine booked in at Woody''s they are not booking until Aug 12 and they need it for a couple days. You have to check the Dometic website for dealers not all of them are on the list to do the recalls, you have to use the ones on the list for warranty

Don't you turn off your tanks?? ILLEGAL TO TRAVEL WITH PROPANE TANKS OPEN....

Only on BC ferries and under ground parking garages. Mine is lit while traveling but I do shut it off when fueling up. It is no different than propane buses and cars going down the road except it's less quanity

**Edit*** Opps sorry here is the link for regulations
