I just picked up a float 30. Yes it only works well with the knowledge to stay away from an avy area. And for the guys that say they just ride the trees isn't there a few avy shoots you cross by to get to your favorite treed areas.?

Looking at an Avi Vest you don't have that one on your list. Price looks more reasonable and I think it'd be more comfortable than a back pack.

Anyone have any pros and cons with these?

I'm wear the Avi (tec) vest.......love it, and when I dont have to pull the cord I love it even more. The armor saves the ribs!

I wear an ABS bag but prefer to ride the tree areas.

snow pulse vest. acts like a tek vest and still has room for shovel...ect. nice set up

My hubby and I both have the Float 30's. We bought them after we took our AST 1 course. There was a few slideshows at the course explaining how in an event that you were overtaken by an avy your chances at survival would be significantly greater.

But my thought is this. In an event that you were suddenly overtaken by a wall of snow, would you be able to actually pull that cord? Not only are you in a panic state at this time, but also certainly not of clear mind. I think I can almost compare this to any other extreme life or death situation where our minds switch into fight or flight. And even if you were able to pull the cord, there are so many other variables at play, such as trauma with trees, rocks and other debris. What are the chances of survival even if you were floating near the surface in the aftermath?

I think an avy bag is a tool, it can give us peace of mind, but it's so hard to predict if it actually would save us in all situations. Don't want to rain on anyone's parade, just some food for thought. Sorry!

Don't have them yet....... Know several that have been involved in avies and never survived when they were deployed. Also know of several that were caught and never had time to react to deploy the bags before being buried and did survive.

best prevention is to know and steer clear..........take an avy course!!!!

I have 1 Ric and won't ride without it...Piece of mind for the wife too. That being said though I was in a couple Avys with mine on (Nothing to serious) and things happened so fast it wasn't until it was over I realized I hadn't deployed my bag...In the excitement I was so busy trying to get away I forgot I was wearing it. I still think they are worth the money and I'm sure they will increase your chance of survival but sometimes things happen so fast its tough to react the way we think we will in a given situation.

My hubby had a 30L snowpulse but got rid of it this year for a vest. He doesn't keep anything in it except emergency survival god-forbid-you-have-to-spend-the-night-on-the-mountain stuff but it still gets a little heavy. He has/had a bad shoulder and the vest will distribute the weight a little better front to back so its not all hanging off his back/shoulders.

Have had an ABS 30 for several seasons now. I don't plan on having to pull the trigger but just in case ( I have pulled it for testing a couple of times). Don't plan on getting in an Avy but still did Zac's course as well. I think you should do anything that can improve your chances of survival, should you find yourself in that situation, avalanches aren't always caused by the victims !

Not saying that's a bad choice, look into ABS packs aswell if you haven't already. Both snowpulse and abs are great packs.

I have the avi vest, havent used it yet,tons of storage and very comfortable.Wear my tekvest underneath.
