Do you ride with a beacon, shovel and a probe.

Always throw mine on first thing at the hotel and usually test it out by tracking some of my fellow sledders in the hotel. They seem to like it when i randomly come up to them and let them know there beacons working A-OK.

I havent even gone out on my new sled yet and I have got a beacon, probe, shovel, snow pulse, and trainning all MUST HAVES.

How about snow shoes? Can you imagine trying to walk out of boulder if you were off the trail. i carry a mini pair of snow shoes and retractable poles in my tunnel bag. They came in handy last year when we ducked down into the trees and had to leave a sled there. Threw on the snow shoes and walked to the top like nothing.

I was thinking about carrying mine too lol.

It's one thing to risk your own life in the mountains but when you don't where a beacon,probes and shovel you are risking your friends life's to.... Same goes if you don't know how to use them

I always carry all three. I also carry extra just incase a rider in the group is missing something.

I carry two sets of probes and Shovels, as well as a transceiver. One set in my tunnel bag and another set in my ABS Avalanche pack. I never take my pack off unless taking a break in a safe spot. I use the shovel in the tunnel bag to dig the sleds out when stuck and I would use the shovel and probe from my tunnel bag to dig out a buried sledder. If I lost my sled in an avalanche and could not get at my gear in the tunnel bag, I would then use the gear from my backpack. I like the quick access to my shovel that my tunnel bag provides. I can get it out and ready to use in less than 10 seconds.

I really couldn't care less if you get caught in an avalanche without a beacon it's when I end up in one wearing my beacon and you don't have one to find me! That's a good policy to have barker, and while it may sound selfish, it's smart.

What have I been missing? You must be talking about an evening seminar? It is better than nothing but if you are riding the mountains in avi terrain, it should be the AST1 and that is $300-$400.

A full day in the classroom with some theoretical things and then another full day to doo real life searches, dig real snow pits, and dig for buried beacons getting familiar with the process.

Everyday we go out we check our beacons and doo a mini search within the group to make sure that everybody is on and there are no low batteries. Just good practise....

The only time I don't wear my beacon is when I am ditch banging in the flat lands of Alberta (the years we actually get snow). However I always wear my pack and the probe and shovel have permanent residence there. Which is lucky, as I seem to be the only one that can find a way to get a mtn sled stuck in a ditch.
