so heres the deal, my 1997 Polaris Sportsman 500 used to do 60mph and could spin tires like nothing, because the power was there. lately it hasn't had that power, and i took it to the dealer and they looked at the carb and clutch, they put a few things in but still no good. so i took it there again and they said the cam is gone. sometimes when i first get on and drive it it will go 45mph but it still has no balls, then it will suddenly only go 20mph and it doesn't seem to rev high enough. does this sound like a cam problem, because i heard these quads are known for bad exhaust lobes?

time to dump the polaris, they are all pos.

not realy worth putting any money into it, you fix the motor ya still have an old worn out quad, part it out or sell it, best to let it go.

have you checked the valve clearances or a kinked fuel line or the relief air line so you don't get an air lock in fuel tank. when you are driving it for awhile and it is not running properly stop and crack the fuel cap and see if you can here a hiss, which could be a vapor lock.

we did check/adjust the valves and we changed the fuel lines. i already ordered a new cam for my quad, but it should be the updated better version.
