2" to support a person
4" to support a quad/sled
6" to support a truck

The key word is "support"
I wouldn't think twice about ripping across 12" of ice, jmo. When I ice raced bikes and quads, we wouldn't go out unless ther was a min of 18" of ice. At a 165k/hr on a bike, its not hard to create a wake beneath you!!! After the winter we have had here, I really have no hesitations of going out on any body of water around here. But that is JMO!!!

10 sleds stacked on top of each other are less likely to fall through then a person walking its all about weight distrubution

So I decided to try and enjoy this fresh snow we have. Went for a rides long the ditch on the sled, the cop didn't think it was such a good idea. First time being pulled over on the sled! There are tracks all over the place out by Langdon so I guess I just had bad timing today. Luckily I didn't get a ticket out of it, I think he was more pissed off at the fact that the guy on the other side of the road with the same idea that he tried to pull over decided to take a left and run into the field. I guess I can't complain, apparently he could have gave me a ticket for $200 for riding a off highway vehical on the highway.

funny how he could bend the law... i drove into a ditch one sleepy night... and they wrote me up for off road left or some damb thing... now he says the ditch is the highway... traffic cops!!! must have been a sheriff... no wait he would've ticketed you... then they wonder why no one pulls over for them!!!!

quads are treated differently than sled medlar. at least county of red deer.

just don't stop a buddy of mine said they can't chase you anyhow... its illegal for them to chase you for a traffic ticket cause you might get hurt! I could understand his frustration if it was the QE 2 cause someone who's never seen a sled before may crash... but common... let people go out and have some good old fashion fun. Up here are ditches are like off road vehicle hwys and the cops wave as they go buy!

Im not trying to be an ass and I know my comment will piss off guys in riding cluds but seems like every drunk takes off and they get away... then good old honest guy pulls over and he gets the full meal deal... way to make a regular good guy hate cops and just not stop next time... seems logical to me???? Just my two cents!

Anyhow, glad the cop that stopped you did the right thing!

Both are off hi way vehicles, I don't see the difference I did get stopped on my sled years ago when I lived in Stettler to
I think it sucks to but that's life. Me personally I won't ride in the ditch. Toany culverts an hidden chit everywhere. I would rather hit up some stubble fields with permission

a few years ago, I called all the local MD offices near Calgary. The closest place I could find that allowed ditch riding was Nanton (Willow Creek MD). I have always wondered about Chestermere but Nanton is just as close to my south calgary house.

west of Nanton has lots of farms without any fences so the ditches are pretty safe. Good place to tune the sleds
