You don't see Direct Buy on too many of the local hockey team jersies or the thank you plaques at the trail head. The money people spebnd at places like that is completely gone from your community. You may pay more sometimes to get stuff locally but those are the companies that put money back.

They aren't no deal, cannot be just think about it logically. They aren't making any products themselves, instead they are buying them from the suppliers and are reselling them to you, sure they might get them cheaper from the supplier then you (maybe) but they are still marking them up to make money. Unless they are damaged products, orders next picked up, etc there is no way, and anyone can get those cheap. If you look hard enough I can assure you you can find the same or better price from somewhere else. And not a chance in hell I would ever pay $5,000 membership fee.
