Oops my mistake I was hoping for the Edmonton area. Thanks tho.

Im curious what was the problem that guys were having with the espar heater??

Ours just stop working internally. Send them out to get repaired. Sometimes a new harness. Sometimes they come back with other repairs done.

Polar mobility installed the one in my duramax. On the R/H frame rail. It's an espar. Never had any grief. Have an espar on work truck to. Had to repair it a few times but it's 7 yrs old and gets a lot of use and abuse. Eskimo refrigeration might do installs too

Bad pumps that have to be mounted at a goofy angle to work and burner chamber issues are the most common ones I've seen.

My TSL 17 Webasto was 10 years old and still working when I sold the truck with all the original parts still.

I put an espar on my 06 mega cab 8 years ago and has never given me a problem. kit was built for dodge bolts right to frame behind transfer case and had steel lines run up to motor and wiring harness to turn blower motor on. My neighbor put one one his 2010 cummins last and you can get an app to turn it on his phone.

They were down at agritrade this week I was chatting with them.
Just a ts17 with out a 7 day timer so just a toggle switch is about a grand and then the 7 day timer is another 200 bucks. I think the last pick up I did took me about 3 or 4 hours so probably be 500 ish bucks with consumables and such. I'd bet you wouldn't leave eskimo for less then 2 grand. Those guys are really good tho and they offer an extra years warranty that no one else around gives.

Four Freightliners, four Webasto heaters all with 7 day timers, first unit was installed eight years ago with zero problems.
one problem with one unit: stone or wet snow broke a wire, that's the only problem with four units.
i was told by my Freightliner dealer the best way to avoid problems is to use the units often and I do, I never ever cold start my trucks, one Detroit series60 and three Cat engines.

If you do go Espar, do not let the dealer in Edmonton install in. They don't drop the tank to install, just drill into it making a mess of the tank and a hack job. Have one on my Volvo track hoe, it's factory so not sure which brand but no issues, so nice to have.

I prefer parking in a heated garage for my pickup though ;) Although I don't like it, it's nice to know the Cummins will start at -30 unassisted though.

Look at romheat for espar controls instead of the 7day timer.

Well found some super good buys on a couple ts17 webasto units. Threw one in my Duramax and the other is going to go into one of the farm trucks.
It's been a long time since I installed one instead of just servicing them. Went fairly smooth and turned out decent. After a couple days using it in the pickup it is sooooo handy. Set the timer when you head into the building or work. Come back out and bam truck is at operating temp. Instant heat.
Here's some pics of the unit in the Chev.
If anyone wants a price on a unit and install feel free to pm me here or give me a call/text

I have two Espars. One in a 2004 Dodge 2500 5.9L (its a gen 1) and I also have one in a 2006 Chev 3500 dually (2nd gen). They both work well and have been working for many years. I did both installs myself. I have lost a water pump in the gen 1 and a computer board in the gen 2 (poor silicone on computer board since updated. Doesn't matter if its Wabasto or Espar they both are mechanical and will fail eventually. We have installed both types and both types are more or less the same. Espar does have the gen 3 hydronic now which has some nice design changes.

I have both units with 7 day timers the originals which are much better and simple as compared to the newer versions. I went back to a gen 1 7day timer on my Dmax. I found when remotely (neg pulse to pin 4) turned on the one style of timer it would default to 30min not the 120min that I like. They have since changed the timer style again which also defaults to 30min I believe as well with a remote start trigger.

Some of the common things that go wrong are water pumps, temp sensors, computer boards on gen 2. I also had a burner insert that cracked. Got loud and the burn wasn't clean. It was a mystery for a while. I have never lost the fuel pumps on either. They are supposed to be serviced regularly but not many do. They can get coked up depending on the fuel etc. Its good practice to run once a month regardless.

I also find the cummins takes longer to warm up as compared to the aluminum dmax. The Dodge install kit is cool on the older models because it can turn your blower on and heat the cab. Just make sure your blower is on low and batteries are good. Kinda nice to have the heat and thawed windows. Dmax doesn't have it due to electronic heater controls on the older dmax. If I leave my max heater on for 1-2 hours I actually have engine oil temp before the start which is good.

If you do install the heater yourself make sure the yellow code wire is installed so u get the trouble codes if problems should arise. Install is straight forward. Make sure to install it so removal is easy if you need to take it out and crack it open !

Cheers

I really liked the old style 7 day timer, but I get why they went to this style and there are a couple of new features like the hour meter and day/weekend individual timer settings that make it work better.
Nothing like getting in the truck at -20 and the engine temp is already at 140-150!!

Had Espar installed yesterday. Similar to my last one, 7 day programable with three timers for each day. Can also set how long to run for for each time. Also has remote control to turn on/off when ever I want as well.

Anyone have experience with hooking a remote cell phone controller to the newer Webasto units?

We're just waiting for a couple kits to show up and we're gonna put them in our loader tractors that are always scattered over the country for loading hay. They got back ordered but should be here anytime.
