this tread was about friggin truck drivers driving there friggin trucks over the centerline on 881, nothing about 1/2 tons etc, that is for another thread. seems like a lot of defensive truck drivers on here. if you don't drive 881, this is not about you, or if you don't drive with left front wheel on center line then this has nothing to do with you.. if you have an opinion as to why this is happening then please let us in on the reason. If you are one who drives like this on 881 or any other road give your head a shake.

what I see is they don't give a s-it about anyone else but themselves. I see a few phone calls being made. and I have to say there are some very good truck driver's out there, just trying to make a living and wanting to get home safe

to be honest, not likely about anyone on here, just an observation of what I saw out there.

the only thing i can think of is the snow on the outside edge may draw truck into loose snow and ditch? what is your opinion as a truck driver.

My opinion is there's lots of friggin idiots on that road( and on every other road,it's just a lot more noticeable on that skinny chitty road)Lots of inexperience ,lots of distractions,lots of new Canadians that are not used to driving in snow,lots of people that have never thought of being courteous to others on the road.Come to think of it,most truck drivers are azzholes.And for every one of them there's at least ten friggin azzholes in four wheelers on a suicide mission.

yes there may be more 4x4ers on a death ride, the 881 is indeed narrow, everyone is in a big hurry, we get it every morning, there is another crew coming from ft mcmurray, consultant wants us to beat them, hurry, hurry but be safe(lol).
anyway I noticed all the loons in 4x4's, but really noticed transports driving in the opposing lane, had to put passenger tires into the gravel edge.

By the sounds of it your not worth the time to explain why large trucks have a bit of a variance in forward motion, or why governing trucks at 90 km/h, and a line of 20 nose to tail would cause MORE problems then it would solve.

Maybe all those pita trucks should be banned from the road. friggen trucks

Oh i know why trucks speeds vary done a little driving in my time, my reference to europe was because they have waaay more truck traffic on the hiways than we do.

The issue is trucks driving 120, makes it difficult for others to get by.

Any vehicle that cannot keep the posted speed constant is a hazard.

so what happens when this parade of trucks come to a hill? they all slow down to say 60 or so. now how do all these 4 wheelers get by, are the trucks still the hazard?

You got it, but my reference was for multi lane hiways....

Heavy trucks are no worse then all these people who pull trailers with there ****ing minivan, or even half ton for that matter.


An easy fix would be 2 lanes, both directions. 3 would be best. BUt due to the ****ing enviromental bull**** and of course the cost it will never happen.

Drive the speed limit?? Maybe they should govern passenger vehicles to 110, with not nearly enough horsepower to get there.

Take your own advice, and ride a bike

I don't know about opposite lane, but to be honest, much of the big truck driving people see could be caused by road rage.

From my experience, there is nothing more frustrating then cruising down the the road at 100 to 110, trying to keep a safe distance from the fella in front. Then some ****ing retard in a car/truck/minivan comes up behind, passes and fills the gap, and then SLOWS down. So then what?? Have to reduce speed, comes to a hill, slow down more. Then more assholes behind start zooming past because there pissed off at these friggin trucks. And they can never pass when it's safe, so I need to slow down to let them back in because Id be a dink if I held my lane and forced them to make another bad decision. I have on more then one occasion rode the line to 'discourage' people from passing, for there good, not mine.

Some need to look at the bigger picture. Given, there are some just bad drivers, but for the MAJORITY of us, our actions are caused by the little folks. I'm willing to bet if there was a highway for just big trucks, and one for everyone else.... there would be far less incident on ours.


There is also such a thing as driving defensively. But it's always everyone elses fault...right? friggin trucks anyway

You think if a hiway truck or passenger vehicle for that matter is traveling at 110km on a road with a posted speed of 100km there is a need to pass them? All I'm saying is you might get there 5 min sooner or you might not get there at all, and yes I've spent lots if hours driving truck and still do weekly. I cant speak for all drivers but i do not ride bumpers when following in tractor unit. Some definitley do. Im just saying a little patience goes a long way on a road such as this.

None of you fawkers can drive whether it be 30,24,18, 6 or 4 wheels......

I'm not a truck driver but even I know a one semi can't pass another semi on a long steep grade incline, why cant the truck drivers figure this chit out.....
Riding my azz has no impact on the guy in front of me, you riding my azz isn't going to make him speed up and I'm not getting any closer, I want by just as badly as you and I'm first Fawk off
If your going to text/post/dial while driving at least use cruise control, I just passed you when you were doing 90k texting, why are you now passing me @ 125k???? set your cruise and text on.

Lack of courtesy and consideration is the issue no matter what people drive. People need to pay attention to what is going on around them. If I see someone flying up in my rear view (that mirror mounted on the windshield) I get over before they get to me and have to fawk with their cruise. If someone is merging I either speed up to get in front or back off to give them room most are oblivious to anyone else other than themselves.

And from my experience Recreational users (sleds/atv's/campers/5-ers) are the WORST

how can you say that? many different trucks are hauling a lot of different loads, different configurations, different weights, different horsepower. they certainly can pass each other on a slight grade tho it might take a little longer than if you were doing it in a 4 wheeler. it may be the only place that's safe for a truck to pass another, especially those that are governed to 90 km/hr and the passer is governed at 100 km/hr. as far as I know, there aren't any different rules for trucks passing slower vehicles.

If I were driving truck I would understand my trucks capabilities and pass other trucks when practical and considerate....Not when my passing another truck would create a backlog of slow traffic. I run the QE2 2 to RD & Calgary 2 or 3 times a week and my #1 piss off is 2 semi's side by side same speed backing up the left lane.
