It can be the culprit, i dont know how the owner rides, but i've only seen a clutch shoe assem. and drum from a eiger 400 5-speed get burnt/worn badly. Buddies son was always startin out in 2nd or 3rd gear all the time. I've never seen a king quad do sum wearin. I aint pointin fingers, just offering insight/info on the situation. without the centrifugal clutch, the belt system would be similar to any sled cvt setup.



I've got a buddy who uses castrol syntec 10w40 or 5w40(i cant remember which) in his 06 KQ and both those oils are not jaso approved. He mite of switched by know but who know's, i havent seen that quad for yrs now, i know he has it. His wife rides it.

Over on arctichat there is a quite a few stories of failures due to the wrong oil, including input from dealers and parts suppliers. Maybe I am just anal, But I AM NOT going to take the chance. Quite a few arctic cat models had suzuki engines in them so I would think it would be the same. However arctic cat calls for different weight oil in my 500 AC (zuki engine) than suzuki calls for in the vinson which is the identical engine. Go figure?

Naw , i wouldnt advise on testing it. I only install jaso oils for that reason. I sure as hell would not take the chance as well.

What does AC call for in ur 500 10w40?

here ya go crisscross,
On the sheeve pics the biggest feller i could get thru was a .006"
The drum looks grooved but its barely touched.
Remember all this is used.

it looks like the clutch is fairly good, but the drum looks worse then the one I have. I phone mountain toys and they say there is no groves in the drum when new. The sheve that is shown looks pretty good. Is the other one worn the same>? Do you have a drum that has no groves in it.

I'll take sum top pics of the clutch shoes, and a str8 on pic.
The New drum will be unscathed, until its used. Its just looks grooved, i'll take better pics tomo, Friggin batteries went dead.
The sheeve is the same, i'll get better pics too.

As long as the surface is flat,+/_ .2000 and true, It must be round(vibration). Any resurfacing that is done , brake rotors,cylinder bores, flywheel faces, brake cylinder pistons etc. have a factory tolerance they must adhere to for optimum performance. If you exceed this tolerance (stamped on brake drums and disks) you risk ...(overheating, pre-mature metal fatique),Warpage(due to heat),Vibration/chatter(due to both of above). Imho , Don't buy .....
used clutches
used brake components( including lines & fittings)
used tires
used bearings
Anything that you want to go round and round nice and smooth and feel safe giving your three year old a ride on.

wouldnt buy used clutches? well when brand new is close to 350 w/o taxes and i sell one that came from a quad that only had under 1000 kms on bike, for 200. which one would u pick?

Its up to u crisscross, im just tryin to save u sum money, I've sold lots of used stuff off kings already and i havent had a part come back.

That is what I told him in a pm. I just meant me personally, I have had bad luck with used parts. If I can afford it I buy new , but if things were tight I would buy your used clutch. I am pretty sure if your clutch had any kind of problem,you would back it up , right?

Hell ya i'll back it up, cant have any unsatisfied king owners, every used part is heavily scrutinized, measured, compared to new parts.
An if there's anything i dont like, i throw the part in the steel/aluminum bin.
i dont sell problems, i sell parts to fix em.
But i see where ur comin from. If u got the money buy new, but if its tight, maybe go used or let ur bike sit, till u have enuff $$$ for the new parts.
