Thanks for all the input, being unexperienced with the quad when I first got it I change the oil to 10w-40 synthetic. not knowing any better. I thought I was doing something good for the machine, but found out after about a month of owning it that I found out it was the wrong oil. It need to be 4 stroke oil, change it but maybe the damage was already done to the clucth. It seemed to run better with the other oil/ synthetic. The piece were hard but I never tried a magnet on the pieces, and now have thrown them away. The quad still has the oil in it sence this happened and maybe there are still some peices in there. I will have a look as soon as my back is better. Thanks again for everything. Cheers

well that is probably your problem man.

you can run synthetics but it has to be wet clutch compatible stuff like amsoil.

lets hope you just pooched your wet clutch .. much easier to fix that then splines and splitting cases.

If you read the post above synthetic is fine as long as it is rated "JASO MA" according to the shell rep it is wet clutch safe. Don't worry crisscross your not the first one to do this believe me. I run the shell rotella 6 5w-40

Maybe I'm blind but i see nothing about him saying he ran shell oil for one.

Also if he didn't this is a good reason to believe his damn wet clutch is destroyed.

I actually hope it is because that's a much easier fix like i said.

I said I run shell oil.I didn't ask what kind he used and he never said. All he said was he used the wrong oil when I asked him if he changed it.I was just trying to give him a wet clutch safe oil option. Hence the copy of the e-mail from sheel rep.

i run 10w-40 in winter , but they dont start worth a crap in the cold anyway .

the wet clutch may be a easier fix but it stlill going to be a $500 touch if it needs to be replaced.
look on youtube if you need to know how to replace the wet clutch (have to pull the wet clutch to get the epi stall springs installed)

Ok guys I did an experiment, with the rear wheels off the ground the wheels will turn. But it seems to take forever for the primary clutch sheves to close and no there is no dirt or any thing in the clutch, it is beautiful and clean and the roller weights move freely. Now when I put the wheels back down on the ground, the wheels won't move at all. It trys with a jerk every once in awhile, this tells me that what ever drives the primary clutch is the problem not the wet clutch. Is this the bevel gears or what?

Ur wet clutch(centrifugal) drives ur primary. when u remove the wet clutch cover the primary shaft is part of the clutch drum. I'd remove the wet clutch cover and inspect the wet clutch and drum. Thats an easy way to eliminate the wet clutch.

Another experiment is to turn the sec pulley with ur hands with quad on ground in different gears.

why do I question you smart guys. I called mountain toys and they said the same thing. I guess you can lead me to the beer but you can't make me drink, so now I'm going to drink and remove the wet clutch. Thank you for your patience and understanding, wish me good luck. This maybe the best scenario, I will come back to you for new parts. Cheers

Sounds like wet clutch problems to me. Not a hard or to expensive fix had to do it to one of my kings before. Mine didn't stop moving the bike but it just didn't have the power when taking off. When I removed the cover the basket was completely black and shoes were wore. Replaced to new and installed the highlifter epi clutch kit with stall springs and it pulled super hard with 29.5 outlaws. Hope you get it figured out soon and don't have to spend a bunch of money.

Just to let you know it was the wet clutch and the drum. They are both fffffffcked. I thought the wet clutch was behind the secondary but I was wrong , it's behind the primary daaaaaaaa. Thanks for all the input. Cheers.

Honestly, I have never heard of anyone wearing out the wet clutch. Would this be due to using high gear where we should be using low gear?

It can be the culprit, i dont know how the owner rides, but i've only seen a clutch shoe assem. and drum from a eiger 400 5-speed get burnt/worn badly. Buddies son was always startin out in 2nd or 3rd gear all the time. I've never seen a king quad do sum wearin. I aint pointin fingers, just offering insight/info on the situation. without the centrifugal clutch, the belt system would be similar to any sled cvt setup.

I've got a buddy who uses castrol syntec 10w40 or 5w40(i cant remember which) in his 06 KQ and both those oils are not jaso approved. He mite of switched by know but who know's, i havent seen that quad for yrs now, i know he has it. His wife rides it.
