2006 700 king quad won't drive. I jacked up the quad removed the cover for the belt. Fired it up, it takes along time for the primary clutch to move in. When I let off the fuel it clunks. So I drained the oil and small chunks came out:realmad:. Now what do I do:rant:, take it in, it will probably cost a fortune any ideas. Has any one come across this before and what should I do. Thanks:beer:

It could be that your roller weights are possibly dirty and not moving freely.
If you have pieces when you drained your oil it could be your wet clutch.
Here is a great tech tip that will help you. Nyroc's ATV info website

with the rear of the quad in the air and belt off, I can turn the secondary clutch and the rear tires will turn. The pieces that came out of engine looked like gear pieces (casting)

Oh, that might be a different story. It could be either the front or rear output gear.

I had to replace my rear output gear. I ordered the gear from the south, cost me $153.00. Compared to almost $300 from a dealer here. I removed the engine and took to the dealer for him to split the cases and replace the gear. cost to me was $600.00.
Been running great since.

On mine, the rear output shaft was broke, therefore no power to the rear wheels.

I did take the left side off of the engine and was about 1/8" from being able to get the
shaft replaced without splitting the engine.

I have not ran the Power Commander but I know that over the stock ecm the VDI is the way to go. The VDI changes the Timing as well as the fuel.
I am very satisfied with the VDI. I was probably one of the first 50 people to get the vdi and I am still getting new maps to try. There are people that are using A/f meters to tune with, so I load their maps just to see how mine will run.
Loading a map to the ecm take 15 seconds.

what ever drives the primary clutch I think is the problem, but I will check the wet clutch. It seems that the primary is slipping or I should say the shaft inside is slipping, but I tried to stop it with my foot against it when it was running, but it wouldn't stop. Thanks for all your input.

sounds like wet clutch problems maybe.... make sure you dont eff up the nut on the wet clutch shaft, its backwards threaded and you need some sort of tool to back the clutch up while breaking that nut. but chunks in the oil sounds bad, there are a few different scanarios but some are impossible to diagnos unless the motor is split.. good luck

chit, I'm looking in the service maual and it says- power will not transmit from engine (Broken or damaged drive bevel gear teeth) or axle or out put shaft. Well I can see it is not the axles. I guess it time to phone the repair shop on this one Dam.

You should be able to figure out if it is a rear or front output shaft. If the primary clutch turns and you can not stop it, I thinks it is an output shaft.
Don`t be afraid to take the clutch cover off, then you can take the inside plastic cover off of the engine. There is nothing in there that is difficult to get back together.
If you was closer I would help you out more.

I have Never heard of a wet clutch going bad.

lmfao, wasting time, thats a gooder.

so, ur king is busted hey, when u turn the secondary, in different gears, hi,lo, rev, do the wheels still turn?
post pics of those chunks, im thinkin the drive bevel gear, i've dealt with that problem only once and the cases had to be split, i replaced the bevel, rear output shaft, and had to clean out the case to rid it of metal chunks.

Ur best bet is to remove engine, remove the cvt covers and wet clutch cover on the right side of motor, then take off generator cover on left side and have a look at all thre gears. if u cant see any damage on left or rite side ,its deeper, maybe trans gears, drive bevel gear, or output shafts. U'll need suzuki tools to get the rotor(for stator) off on the left side, and a wet clutch puller for the right side. unless u have those tools i wouldnt recommend tryin to remove those indicated parts.Have seen ppl try it and they mess up their cranks.

What caused this to happen? whhat where u doin when she messed her self up?

well I don't have any fancy tools, and I was just driving up a small incline and it stopped going. So I put it in 4hi and still wouldn't go, it was like the brake was on. So then I put it in 4low and away it went. For about 1/4 mile we stopped and when I went to go again it just reved up and went very slow, then it stopped and it was towed. This is a used quad and must be a lemon or it was abused. The hours and milage where low. chit

The wet clutch is a centrifugal clutch, the more rpm u give it the faster it spins and forces the W clutch shoes out and they engage onto the wet clutch drum, thus turnin ur primary shaft.
when u first start it does the primary shaft continue to spin?
It shouldnt spin w the cvt all hooked up( drag)
But it mite spin with no load on the primary( primary sheaves, belt, rollers, etc.)

U where sayin u found chunks comin out. Where they metal or look like brake pad material?

Sounds like a wet clutch issue to me, the fact that it would move in low range but not high is a dead giveaway. We had the same problem with a couple if the rhinos we use at work guys were driving them through the muskeg in high range and fried the clutch. I found chunks in the oil as well and found that they were pieces of friction pad material from the clutch. I would pull the wet clutch out and inspect it before I took it to a shop and paid a small fortune splitting the cases.

Did you change the oil when you first got it ? Not all engine oils are wet clutch safe! Some have friction modifiers that do not work with wet clutches.
Here is the email from a Rotella engineer from shell forums

"We recently ran the JASO MA friction test on Rotella T with Triple Protection 15W-40, Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 (CI-4) and our soon to be introduced (within the next 2 months) Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 CJ-4.

All three oils passed the wet clutch friction test. Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 (CI-4) has more than 1.2% ash (JASO MA spec limit) so it can not be classified as JASO MA. However, Rotella T with Triple Protection 15W-40 and our soon to be introduced Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 CJ-4 do meet JASO MA."

If you have any additional questions please call us at 800-231-6950.
Thank you for your interest in Shell products."

k, just ript apart a new king. With cvt assembled and belt installed, nothing spun. With the belt, primary assembly off, the primary output shaft spun, i couldnt stop it with my foot either. till i shut it off, held the primary shaft, started again and it didnt spin. unless u let go of it.

Like i sed before take off ur cvt back cover, and the clutch cover after that. then u'll be able to see the clutch drum and wet clutch. If the wet clutch shoes are not smooth or blackened its fried. also check ur clutch drum, it could be grooved heavily from the shoes of the wet clutch. if its smooth and the wet clutch looks fine, its deeper.
If u can post pics.
