Do you calculate your tax payable on your gross earnings ? Be careful what you wish for !
But I certainly agree , $5000 ish earnings previous years , all of a sudden $2000/ month free money ,? Only our libtards could come up with something that stupid.
Yep. Should have been capped at amount equivalent to 2019 income ...that way you are no worse off. They did same **** with CEBA - 1st you needed to show 50k in wages (low entry point) then proceeded to water down the requirements ....

That cake business retard on the news is Unbelievable. She Can’t make $5000 a year income in 2019 but collects $18,500 from Pandemic handouts then has the nerve to go public that she can’t pay the government back because she already spent it. Must be nice to increase your income 270% By doing nothing And then be completely unaccountable for ur own stupidity....

I have no sympathy for this woman- cra should be able to adjust its handout to catch abusers like this person.

So this lady sold 5k in cakes in 2019 and received nearly 19k in cerb payments lol. Wtf does anyone want to work for anymore, gov hands money to everyone.

Did any of you actually read the article? Her gross income was OVER $5000 which is why she applied it doesn't say what the actual number was, but her NET was below $5000. Nowhere in the story does it say she made $5000. Maybe she made $40,000 gross?

I do agree the amount of cerb for that kind of income is insane, but it's no different then a regular employee who made $5000 that year. Cerb should have had different rates for different incomes so no one got more income from it then their employment.

CERB is Intended exactly For that-Employment income. They have different Emergency benefits For business. She made less than $5000 employment income. She collected $18500 on a benefit designed to cover employment income that she does not qualify for. That’s fraudulent and she should pay that back. I do not feel sorry....She’s lucky they are not seeking criminal charges for people that abused the program....slap on the wrist and pay us our money. Lesson learned.

the business benefits are designed to cover expenses on your business not Cerb.

Net income of a self employed person does not translate to employment income. Self employed people take advantage of tax write offs making their net income much lower then it really is, if you gave a self employed person with net income of $5000, $5000 it would not actually give them that amount compared to an hourly employee with no expenses.

Except for the rent subsidy, the only business help is a loan of which 25% is forgivable, and it's for business expenses, and you need $20k in payroll to qualify which this lady doesn't have as do many others. Cerb is there for self employed too, that's why they are allowed to apply for it.

I'm not saying she deserves it, i'm saying she is no less deserving of it that many other people who got it.

And we are talking about the chump change. Not a word were most of the money went to, i bet the CBC got a small fortune. Freeland ducked this question the 3 times she was asked it.

Very true. While people may be annoyed about the person getting $20k in cerb that might not deserve it, the real thing to be pissed about is the billions the government is refusing to say where it went. We know where it went, to their buddies, or paying off favours.

I find it weird on him many people really think that it wasnt free money and shocked they have to pay it back. That why so many people think there should be another lock down so they can apply for more free money
Yep I'm sure some people saw the government offering money and just vectored in with tunnel vision and never read all the rules before signing up. Now they are crying to the sky that the government mislead them. Good lord people are stupid sometimes.

The majority of people are content with servicing their debt, actually owning anything outright is completely out of the question. The government does it, why can't we?
Most people are completely lacking financial literacy and it's fueling the socialist revolution we find ourselves in.

I agree that does seem to be the new attitude and the gov't definitely isn't setting a good example but when have they ever set a good example for anything? Also the gov't never needs to retire relying on reduced living costs and savings to live.
