congratulations to Alberta!! Don't forget the fight is still on. My kids teacher was pouting in class asking the kids to raise their had to who's parents voted UPC, how unprofessional could you imagine if a first responder acted like that.Shes a lazy bad teacher of course, and she's getting reported to the principle or higher up if need be.

I have long complained about teacher influence, goes back to my high school days when I had a math teacher who liked to talk politics. It may be a misconception, but the vast majority of teachers I have met are NDP'ers who love nothing more than hugging a few tree's in the mornings.

I believe it is our teachers jobs to educate our children and allow them to make their own decisions. Any teacher who tries to influence those decisions to their own person preference should be fired.

I believe public school is a joke and you don't learn anything of value past grade 6. if I could go back in time I'd drop out in grade 7 lol
My daughter is in grade 5 and is struggling because the teacher is focused on teaching the grade Sixers since they have provincials this year.
The grade 5 are given workbooks and told to figure it out. No instruction at all.

that sound like my school years. I was better at math than the majority of the class so they gave me and a couple other kids a text book and said have at it.

huge waste of 12 years, it's a crime. public school is there to limit your future IMO not to improve it.

when I have kids I want them home schooled.

Don't stop on this one....its totally BS how some teachers are influencing children on political views. I know there are a LOT of awesome teachers out there...

Is class size really an issue?
Some other areas like China (ave 48.8 per class) and Japan (ave 32.5 per class) have large class sizes and their kids seem to excel academically. What is really the issue?

Maybe we need to get better teachers? Maybe we need a system that keeps the teachers at a certain level?

I know there a LOT of GREAT teachers in our schools and I am sure there are also many "duds" who are protected by the system.

We have also moved to including (excuse me if I am using the wrong terms....no disrespect intended) special needs students with the other students. While this is a good thing it can and does cause some distractions for the other students. This also can and does take up more of that teacher's time leaving less one on one time for the rest of the class.

My daughter fits in the special needs category, she is diagnosed as being on the Autism spectrum. She works on a modified program in the same class as her peers, she also has an aid who helps 3 others.
Being in the same class as her peers is a big deal, it is a huge negative to social development to have kids who have difficulty in schools separated. They are instantly labelled by peers as different, dumb, stupid, retarded.(have heard all these comments) When they are separated and they have a hard time being included in social circles.
The education system has many issues, the biggest two I see is lack of funding and top heavy on management. The other is the union protecting useless teachers waiting for retirement.

No I don't think it is.
I think it's a lazy ass teacher. (Actually she has been sick a lot and there is usually a sub)
Grade 3/4 there was 30 kids. 26 this year. Last 4 teachers have been great.
Our kid isn't the only one struggling this year we are finding out as we talk with other parents.
And they did some weird ass split the last two years and split her class. Fractured relationships. Then split the girls different this year....its all fuct.

I would not agree in all circumstances. Every situation is different. In many cases it is disruptive and hurtful to the other students. if someone is at a Grade 4 level, you don't put them in the Grade 8 room to "help them integrate".

How is it disruptive? There should be an aid to help, if there isn't then it's an administrative issue and parents need to fight the battle for one. I've seen this and Problem is not enough parents getting involved.
