I saw a bit that compared our gun laws and the last 15 or so shootings. Even with our gun laws they still would have happened to more the half.
The kid that did the shooting passed the background check and bought the rifle legally.
The background checks depend entirely on the data provided by the various States (eg Felony convictions, mental health issues etc) Some States are so wrapped up in Privacy B.S. that at best very little information is input. The CEO of the NRA yesterday pointed out that 80,000 convicted felons attempted to purchase firearms. Only 44 were prosecuted. There is one very big problem right there.
Ok, I have a question,,,, Why can't they impose a law making any future purchases of firearms from vendors, require an FAC?

That's what we do in Canada, and i'm not sure their system might not be safer. Background check on every purchase down there versus background check I had here when I got my PAL a looooooong time ago, and to my knowledge not another one since. Just renew my PAL every 5 years and I can go buy a gun anytime I want. Am I still sane? Who knows?
Note the statement made by the narrator.....he legally bought the gun.
Worth pointing out we can buy the exact same guns here in Canada but have only had what, half a dozen shootings in the last 10 years? Guns are clearly not the problem.

like you say Dan, people don't get along. People have been killing one another since the stone ages long before guns were around and they will continue to kill one another long after all guns are gone ( like that will ever happen). Until we learn to accept one another's differences and learn to get a long nothing will ever change. And no violence ever happens in Europe now. People don't get along is the problem. Not sure you can ever fix that.
If I lived in Europe Id do my best to find myself a gun.

I agree with what you are saying but it doesn't...well maybe hasn't is a better word...happened to any degree here. I think the current gun laws here and the FAC's etc. help separate the wheat from the chaff. You have to be reasonably determined to follow the process through. Probably the biggest thing is culture and everyone in the US seems crazy for guns of all kinds whether they make sense or not (my 10 year old might need to protect himself so accidentally shoots his little brother).
After two world wars in Europe, there are fewer available weapons there than what you would find in darn near any state in the USA so I don't think it is impossible to reduce numbers of guns out there. Just doesn't seem to be any political will which kinda brings me back to what started this: The kids seem really motivated and are getting organized. I wonder if they will have the staying power to keep this alive until they are able to vote for change.
The guns currently in the states cannot be outlawed or prohibited by the government. It’s against the US constitution for the government to confiscate private property summarily. They can only ban future sales like they have in the past. All the hubbub will blow over like it always does until the next time it happens. Banning certain firearms is an idiotic proposition anyway. It’s like saying we’re going to stop all drunk driving by prohibiting the sale of vodka. Not common sensical at all.

So they ban all guns in the US tomorrow, there are over 100 per person now... nothing changes.
US not even in the top 10 in the world for per capita deaths by guns, take out suicide and it’s much lower yet, and that excludes genocide / terrorist gun use.
US gun industry 14 billion dollar industry... follow the money.
US has a mental health problem? Definitely but the barn doors are wide open.
Funny people won’t rally to ban cell phone use in vehicles and they cause thousands of distracted driving deaths per year, hey we all know your Facebook status more important than paying attention.

LOL, armed security at the school and teachers?? The school resource officer and 3 other pigs sat outside while the kid murdered people, they were too scared to go in because he had a bigger gun than them. How can we expect teachers and armed guards to do what trained "professionals" won't. I like Trump, but come on.
American gun culture is the problem and this crap will keep happening till they change. The new generations are different in their views as a result of this violence, it will change but not till the old timers are in the ground.
A short term fix, would be bullet proof windows and doors, with security locks, where they can lock down the school and isolate everyone inside their classroom.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people, except when you're a white farmer accidentally shooting an Indian...
Anyway, I really think the US could do something and maybe the kids will be the catalyst for some change.
