I poured a 42x60 last spring and all said and done it was close to 15k. That's sand, rebar, in floor heating, concrete and finishing. The cement alone was just over $8500.00. The finishers usually cost between $1.50-$3.00 a square foot.

ya I was told its basically $10 bucks a sq/ft

Depending on the job that is good price. It varies from $9-15 depending on a lot of things like if old pad needs to be removed, how much fill added, how thick of pad, how good of access to area, extra rebar, etc. Plus the bigger it gets, it drops in price a bit.

But for a standard 4" pad rebar 16" centers, and normal access going rate in edmonton is about $11 sq/ft plus gst so basicaly $11.50 sq/ft. Add about $1 if you want a curb.

Whoever you get to do it though, look at previous work that is atleast 5-10 years old and make sure it is work that stands up. As long as the person hasn't abused it it should pretty much look as good as new after 10 years. No surface coming off, a hairline crack is ok but not shifting or opening up if it is they don't know what they were doing. Unless it's a special circumstance doing it.

I built a 26x24 garage a couple of years ago. Cement was $2350

That MIGHT buy the concrete, rebar, and gravel if your lucky now. Concrete alone is about $2.50 sq/ft. Either that's not in alberta or was a LONG time ago. Even 10 years ago in alberta you'd pay more then that.

Why has concrete gotten so expensive? I wanted to put some of my grain bins on cement but it is half the price of the bin! I understand placing it being pricey but cripes, its just powder and gravel.

I was just quoted $23,000 for a 40x60 8" pad with one sump and no floor heating. My building site has excellent access and is 25 minutes southwest of Rocky...anyone want a concrete job this summer??? I thought 23 was fricken high.

I wouldn't do it for that based on prices of material here. Concrete on that alone would cost $12,000. Unless concrete is cheaper there, I would be worried that price is TOO cheap. I would easily be in the $30,000's

Did 9,000 sq/ft warehouse pad out back 6" thick, still was $90,000+ gst. To get under $10 sq/ft is tough. Granted there was old concrete and asphalt to remove. Concrete has just gotten to expensive. Plus rebar is about $1 sq/ft, on a 8" pad it should be double the rebar. Plus about $1 sq/ft for gravel.

Stuff has to be cheaper there, you material alone would be $8 sq/ft.

Plus have you seen the wage of most concrete finishers? Low to mid 30's easily. Labour adds up quick.

There is a reason why so many people started doing concrete in the boom, and only lasted a short time, they think concrete companies are getting rich (yes it's good money) but to do it properly not just anyone can do it.

I heard concrete was only like $100 a meter there? If so it's less then half the cost, so that's a big reason why stuff is cheaper there.

To anyone who says it's to much money, I just tell them go do it yourself then. Yes anyone who can read a tape measure and figure out slope, etc can form (even though it will take you FOREVER unless you've done it before), same with gravel and rebar. But the finishing, you better know what you are doing or you'll be doing it again.

But most reputable guys won't even pour and finish outside stuff anymore, to many people don't know how to properly prep and blame the finishers.
