Cordless drill ice auger ???

Looking at getting into ice fishing
And will need an ice auger don't want a gas one as I have a suv and don't like putting gas inside it.
The electric ones seem pricey.
So wondering if anyone has use a cordless drill on one?
If so how does it work and which auger do you use.
I have a Makita 18 volt drill with lots of batteries

I used a 20v Milwaukee brushless drill with a 8” auger, you can by the Adaptor that Goes from your drill to the auger at Canadian tire…it works pretty slick and it’s nice and light to carry. Can get a whole day out of a battery at full charge.

I have a video of my buddy using the Kdrill 7.5" auger with a Milwaukee M18 going through probably close to 30" of ice last spring on Montreal lake... drilled close to 20 holes with it using the 9amp battery. Surprised the ch!t out of me how well it worked for how light it is.

I will try and upload the video.


And I can confirm that it floats.

Pretty sure it was the fishing hole in saskatoon... cabelas and CT don't carry it for some od reason. I think they are about $300

My brother uses a clam drill auger Conversion kit can buy them on amazon for around $120 works pretty awesome too. I think you still need that little electric drill adapter from Canadian tire but it’s only around that 20buck mark….

Those are awesome, will have to get one, I have a 12 amp battery from an M18 chainsaw bet would work great With 1/2 Milwaukee drill.

Bigger the drill the better . I use a Makita 18 volt 6 amp . on a hand auger that i just put a drill adaptor on . works good . just make sure you have a plastic disk that spins and allows you to put a bongi cord so it cant fall off
down the hole .

I have one of these and it works awesome with the Makita drill. You don't need to buy an adapter it comes with everything you need.

This is for drilling post holes, but.might work for ice fishing too.

milwalkee brushless 1/2inch with the 6ah battery x2 and the strikemaster auger attachment. great setup. was pricey but my back says its worth it. I do still bring the old heavy jiffy for backup when the ice is thick later on in the season. The video above the guy is using t kdrill attachment. It works ok but the strikemaster and the eskimo auger attachments are faster drilling if that matters. Also the drills will burn if you punch 30 holes in a row. been there done that lol

my cousin and I were talking about these ice augers last week at hunt camp. He bought the Cabela's one and was advised to affix a frisbee or something to the top of it, larger diameter than the hole it drills in case it slips out of the drill chuck, good advice I think.

I'll be looking for an auger later this winter, I pick up my ice tent this week.

Milwaukee 1/2” drill and k drill seem to work really good. Watched one in action and was impressive. I think if I went electric I’d buy the strike master 40v auger. The drill set up would be good early season but at the end in 3’ of ice not so much.
