Here it is, for all the guys who say don't go to Revy, and that cops don't care. One down!

Sicamous RCMP have arrested and charged a 32-year-old Enderby man following a police chase early Sunday morning involving a stolen truck, trailer and the two snowmobiles it was hauling. The vehicle had been stolen from a motel parking lot in Revelstoke just hours earlier.

An officer on a late night patrol in Sicamous set up specifically to target sled thefts noticed the truck on the move eastbound at about 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

When he attempted to pull the truck over, the truck sped off, eventually taking a dead-end side road where it slid into a ditch.

The man fled, but was tracked by a police dog to a nearby property where he was found hiding in a motorhome.

Sgt. Dave Dubnyk of the Sicamous RCMP detachment said the man "is known to the police."

The man remains in custody until a Feb. 25 B.C. Provincial Court appearance in Salmon Arm.

The truck and trailers were registered to an owner from Saskatchewan.

Dubnyk said the intervention was the result of a police strategy that focused on information-sharing between local RCMP detachments and beefed up late-night patrols.

In the Sicamous area, police are targeting any vehicles hauling snowmobiles in the hours between sunset and sunrise.

"Everybody gets checked," Dubnyk said, adding the response from the sledding community has been positive.

He estimated police have checked "hundreds" of trucks and trailers in the initiative this snow season and will continue until the snow melts.

Dubnyk said it was his feeling the individual was delivering the sled to someone else, and didn't feel he was directly involved in chopping up sleds. He added that RCMP criminal analysts continue to investigate.

"That's part of our investigation for sure," Dubnyk said. "We are looking to determine where this particular sled and trailer were going."

Dubnyk vowed continued enforcement this season, including the ongoing bait sled initiative. So far, police haven't had any attempted thefts of the bait sled unit – a surveillance equipped trailer designed to lure in and catch thieves. It's modelled after the bait car program.

Police remind snowmobile owners to take precautions like parking your vehicle in a well-lit place, using wheel locks, using alarms and disabling your vehicle's motor.

The identity of the man and the exact charges against him will likely be revealed when court authorities release the Salmon Arm court docket on Feb. 25.

Sicamous RCMP are seeking charges of breach of probation, theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The Crown prosecutor has not yet decided on approval of the charges. Police are not yet releasing the man's name.

None of the police allegations against him have been proven in court.

Despite ongoing security partnerships between Revelstoke police and snowmobile stakeholders like snowmobile organizations and accommodation providers, snowmobile thefts have continued to trouble the community. The expensive machines are often stolen along with valuable trucks and trailers.

YEP!
That just about sums it up. If he squeals, then great, but he is just a delivery boy to a much bigger organization. Hope the bait program pays off.

I was talking to the cops in Valemount, and they said they usually find the trucks and trailers on a side road. They unload the sleds in a different trailer waiting and just ditch them.

they are moving them to US I 'd say.
Alaska perhaps

Why would you say that? Do you have some information about this? Again, the guy who bought my sled ordered it from Vernon, drove down from Chetwynd in a Uhaul, and then in a classic idiot move bragged about it, lucky me. He told the cops all that but wouldn't say where, or not that they would tell me. There is a long chain of people involved, the kids they get to actually steal the stuff are the bottom of the chain, and they have been told the cops can't really do much but charge and release. It comes down to our courts and the lack of support for the cops.

This is great news! but sadly one low level moron is not going to stop the thefts. Good on the rcmp for there continuing support to stop the losses, we can only hope this leads to the mother load and yes I'm sure if the cops could they would apply a vise to that guys balls and make him squeeeeelllll.
Anyway's this is awesome news to see someone getting caught!!

Unfortunately I'm a bit of an expert on this topic as I've had my trailer outright stolen once and broken into another time for a total of 3 sleds stolen. Eventually the RCMP found 2 of the sleds with guys who they busted for drug offences. Neither of them were charged with possession of stolen property, they just walked on those charges even after I testified in court. The third sled never showed up in any form so I assume it was stripped as it was just too custom to try and sell. Its nice to see they are trying now and realize there is a huge problem but I'm not sure much will change as a result of the arrest.

So charges are.... "Sicamous RCMP are seeking charges of breach of probation, theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The Crown prosecutor has not yet decided on approval of the charges. Police are not yet releasing the man's name." So it's legal to run from the cops and they wont charge you? FF sakes nail this dirt bag with every possible offence available. Set an example!!!!

I think they should have court on a Saturday in the Boulder parking lot!!! With the jury being the sledders!! We can decide his guilty or not and hand down the punishment to be carried out immediately!! Oh and hand us over his cell phone so we can see who his buddies are. Because I don't beleive the cops can use that as admissable evidence as I was told after some scumbags we caught stealing our fuel.

Our laws need to be simple. Steal=lose a hand. Rape=lose your dick. Kill=lose your life. Drive drunk=lose your beer LOL

Last one was a joke!!
