Convince me that Ski-Doo's new 10 1/4" screen is worth the $$

Hopefully the screen durabilty is better than the standard "ipad" stuff that's out there. I'd be putting some 3M film on it regardless. Interesting to see what parameters it shows. Cat made a deluxe gauge year ago, had things like stator output etc on it. Sometimes that's a nice thing to be able to check if you are trying to diagnose an issue.

Wonder what a replacement guage is worth? $2500?

yea, skidoo missed the mark here a bit with this guage the more i learn about it. Its fantastic for trail riders and on road, but they needed a mountain specific software/hardware package not dependent on your phone and cellular service.

The upside is its a great high quality unit that they can now build upon with software updates so we shall see what the future holds.

also the fact it needs a small battery is annoying. That should be optional, most of us don't care if the gauge stays on for 10 mins after you shut the machine down.

It's the 2 minute boot time that they are trying to avoid by having a battery.

Ya, guessing that gauge will obsolete in a year on the mnt sleds. Not a lot of riding areas in interior BC with cell service. Polaris for win in the gauge department.

I saw a little video on the gauge. They are proud of using a 10.25" gauge but from what I saw they were only using 6-7"" of it. A good 3/4" around the sides and top had nothing displayed to it and about 1.5" along the bottom. Why didn't they just use a smaller display so it would not get broken so easily?

So. I’m terrible for keeping sleds 5 years min. Still riding a 16 t3. With the 10.5 gauge I’m currently not worried about getting it. But I’m also to cheap to go upgrade the sled, when they actually make it functional like Polaris for the mountain sleds. Will there be updates for that 10.5 gauge?

I don't see BRP providing an update in the future for the 10.5 gauge. The hardware will change on next years models and the software will not be compatible. Plus, it would take away the appeal of buying a new unit ('24) the next year if next years has a 'buddy ride system' if you could just update a '23 10.25 gauge.

[Side note: Heck, car manufacturers (Dodge) can't figure out how to do it properly with the capability to do so.
A coworker took his dodge into the dealer for a radio/head unit update and the tech managed to brick it. Told him to buy and new/used unit and have the dealer put it in. (Sorry, not trying to derail/sidetrack the tread).]

Pretty much a guarantee this guage will have multiple updates and feature additions. It has its own WIFI and is app based so it will be easy for them to do that's no question. The concern i have is that it does not have the Hardware capability to transmit location data like the Polaris without cellular. Therefore they wont be able to flick a switch and boom you have buddy tracking down the road....But maybe? they did just release a 180hp 2stroke turbo so they know what they are doing. I'm sure there is accessory ports on the wiring harness that you could plug in a transmitter down the road aswell? lots of ways it could shake our but i just hope it doesn't leave the first year guys stranded without that feature when they do release it.

Also, i received clarification yesterday that the gauge is NOT retrofittable. If you want that gauge package you must spring check the snowmobile with it as it is a different wiring harness.

knowing BRP, they are probably working on some buddy tracking system that will blow the polaris one out of the water. Not sure what that would be but they likely wont settle for just copying what polaris did.

Unfortunately not, it requires cellular coverage for the buddy tracking, that is how it transmits your location to your riding group

But there is no 2 way radio built in so how will you know where your buddy is if either of you have no cell service?
