Ya I thought about it but I`m cheap, lol. I also want to learn my sled. I like the idea of knowing what is going on. It`s taken me 10 years of learning to get this far with what little I know. The first 5 years of sledding I just did what everyone told me to do, to make it work and had no idea why. Now I at least know when my belts are slipping I need more weight for a better bite on the belt. I don`t like not knowing (for example) if my backshifting is off... what do I do???( please don`t respond, I know what to do) So with doing things myself I learn to fix it instead of just bolting on a fix. Thanks for all the ideas and help because this is why I join forums to get help and to offer help. And what is the price of a dyanomo Joe kit?

HEY 4X: I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT MY KIT WAS WORTH, BUT I GAVE JOE ALL THE PARTICS ON MY SLED AND HE SENT A NEW RAMP ANGLE CUT FOR THE MOUNTAINS.... SAID I WON'T NEED TO CHANGE THE SPRING UNTIL I GET THE PIPES ON. HE HAS COMPUTER PROGRAMS AND A TON OF KNOWLEDGE. GO TO DOOTALK.COM AND YOU WILL SEE....CLUTCHING TAKES UP TOO MUCH TIME TO TINKER WITH AND TRY AND ADJUST WEIGHTS AND ANGLES, AND SPRINGS ETC. AND USUALLY THE TINKERER WILL JUST MAKE THINGS WORSE. THE MANUFACTURERS ARE PRETTY BANG ON IN THEIR CLUTCHING THESE DAYS(UNLESS YOU GOT LAST YEARS REV800), SO ITS ALREADY A GOOD START TO "FINE TUNE" FROM. I THINK MY RAMP WAS ABOUT $195.00?? GOOD LUCK AND LET US ALL KNOW HOW YOU MADE OUT.

when you say "Ramp" I`m assuming you mean the three ramps in the primary and not the helix in the secondary. What specs are the new ramps? I know BRP has some you can buy also. Every time I go to martin I try and thumb through their race book. The guy at the counter is getting to know me now so he just throws the book at me when I walk through the door:D. I have the new ramp idea in the back of my head too but I`ll get into that later on.

The thing with clutching is that there are several ways to acheive the same thing.. I dont have anything against dynamo joe, but i don't like the idea of slingin that much weight in the arms, it's hard on rollers.. With the new Xp's if you use a spring in the primary with a little bit less finishing tension on it it will also help out because the weight you have in your arms now will be more efficient.. The ramps in the xp are pretty close to the same as last years, but their is a slight difference on the angle right around engagement.. i think that the ramps are awesome... The biggest is keeping an eye on yoiur rollers, change spring and helix.. Then your good to go...

YEA, YOU'RE RIGHT, ITS THE HELIX AND ITS PART #S8R4 SPECIAL ANGLE DALTON HELIX..... YOU MIGHT LOOK UP WHAT THE ANGLES ARE ON THE DALTON WEBSITE?? BUT REMEMBER THIS IS FOR THE 1000 NOT AN XP800. IT WAS $170.00 PLUS TAX AND FRIEGHT.

It`s my belief too that less weight will rev up faster than more weight, so add enough weight to get what you want but don`t go over.

I know that it works well.. One of the biggest things that will help out the clutches on an xp is to put a screen kit on it.. It will help get hot air out.. As heat is a big killer.. Also remove all foam as well as the foam/plastic peice just above the rewind.. All helps get rid of heat..

Hey guy's if you are taking your clutch apart to clean or modify pull the weight screws out and put some blue lock-tight on and put them back in. Even from factory they only tighten them against the cotterpin, and if they back out it will break the arm.($70.00 each 3 week wait). :D

Erlandson Performance has a pretty good dvd set for clutch maintenance and changing springs, etc. I'm not sure if they are just for Polaris though. Now I just need to invest in the basic tools. I'd like to at least be able to clean everything once or twice a year.

So.... With great knowledge and help from 4Extreme, we added another 12mm to the existing 12mm of pin weights and replaced the stock 160-320 primary spring with a 160-290 spring on my 154" X w/Powdermax track. I now can run WOT at 8300 RPM on clicker 1 @ 2100' elevation (Before i would hit the rev limiter above 8500). My primary clutch shifts to within 1/4" of all the way, and my secondary shifts out to within 1/2" of all the way. My engagement is now at about 4000 RPM (was about 4500 RPM) and I have not had any black rubber on my primary since the change. The fastest I have got the sled to go is now 89mph (was about 63mph before) and if I would have had a little more room it would have been higher yet. I feel way more bite at lower RPMs than I used to and my clutches are both way cooler than they were before. Backshifting is still excellent. I will be going to Blue River at the end of the month, and I will test more there. I am predicting that I will be on clicker 3 or 4 out there depending on the elevation which will be a nice change from clicker 1 the whole time. We also installed some quick clickers and they work great. Again, thanks for all the help 4Extreme.

If you can try to run it at like 8200, you actually dont want the belt to climb all the way to the top of the primary. When the belt does it is actually in overdrive more or less, it is inefficent there.. You made some good changes though, in the right direction..

Thanks for the helpful info sleeper700. Now a guy has a good idea what needs to be done to fine tune the clutching and make things run more efficiently. Thanks for your help and info as well 4extreme.

I just tested my set up today on Renshaw. It works 10 times better than before. I have about a 1/4 lift on the primary before complete shift out which is just about perfect and that was on clicker 3. I was still reving alittle high about 8300 on a good pull. The snow was very setup with about 10-12" of fresh snow on top.

Whoa, There Silver...... Okay, Tell Us About The Avy????!!!!!!!
We were playing in the back of blackwater area over the big drop off. There was seven of us. Darrell from "XS your ride" climb a smaller shoot and when he turned around to come back down a slab about 150' wide and ~18" deep broke free. The whole thing slid about 200' and came to a stop. Darrell was hanging onto the sled and he said it rolled about three times...he wasn`t letting go because he was hoping it would save his butt. Perry was the first one to him and started digging him out. He was buried up to his neck with just his head and one arm sticking out and the sled on top of him. His back was alittle sore after but he`s OK now thanks to Mount haven`s hot tub. Everything could have been alot worst than it was, the snow has alot of sugar about 2' under the top layer. Darrell was stuck earlier and after we got him out we picked up a handful and it poured between our fingers like it was sand.

Wow. Glad To Hear All Is Okay. Very Spooky, As We Were There Couple Weeks Ago And I Got Stuck Vertical And As We Were Digging A Bench To Drop The Sled Onto, We Kept Slipping On The "ice" Layer Under The 2 Ft Of Powder. I Know What You're Talkin About. Did You Take Lots Of Pics Of That?? Need To Post Them To Show People It Is Dangerous Out There. Thanks Extreme!!

Go to dootalk and look for tools I think his e-mail is tandca9726@aol.com
just bought them and work great. Best tools for your buck. He has it all.
