I want to thank everyone that has offered to have me tag along for your rides, BUT being as green and new to this as I am and not knowing my sled very well I was hoping for smaller, shorter trips, closer to Calgary........

Ditch riding? Close by trails? Farmers field?

Maybe some other new riders (as I get the impresion this kind of riding bores the regulars :) )........

We'll keep in touch. You can come out to the SE, and ride right from the house. All of your stuff is safe in the yard.

I'm pretty much new to this game too bought my first sled this year its a short track so I'm just having fun learning how to ride and control my sled in the ditches and fields where I live
So far I'm having a blast just making sure I stay safe and enjoying myself
My advice to you would be to try and find someone local and learn in the ditches and fields

Taz,

Send me a message when you want to go ditch banging and I'll go ride with ya. I grew up riding ditches and jumping approaches and still love that riding style. I'm in SW Calgary and can always haul the sleds to 22x where we can ride for a few hours south of the city.

FYI do not underestimate that sled, it has more power weighs a lot less and is WAY more reliable than anything we had even 8 years ago never mind in the '70s. The sled I learned on had less than 40hp, 3/4" track, leaf spring suspension and need three grown men to start on a cool day.

I got distracted and never finished the point I was going for. The point is that your sled will go a lot of places not just ditches and flatland trails. I was at Cataract yesterday, for example, it's a very nice trail ride which your sled would easily do. Find some experienced riders to tag along with and go see the the countryside. Lots of riders like to take newbies so they have a large list of people they can call and ride with.

And the plan is to go there and spend LOTS of time putting KM's on there.... I guess I am a little gun shy is all... drive 1 1/2 hoiurs there and 1 1/2 hours back is a pice of cake.... but if I am only going out for 1-2 hours to get used to my sled I just don't see if being right... but that is me...

I would rather find some ditches, burn them up, put some KM's on the sled then hit mor eplaces further away.....

Who knows, maybe I go out for 45 min and say "WTF, where is Cataract" lol...

Just ride. I started riding in the mountains. There is a steep curve, but you don't learn if you don't try. Everybody was in the same senario at one point so they lend a helping hand. Coming from the flat land to the mountains isn't as easy as some may think. Whole new ballgame. Riding with more skilled riders also teaches you things you wouldn't normally get.

Couple pointers:

1) Keep momentum.
2) Like everything, gas is your friend
3) Play with your sled's set-up.

I figured it would be easy to jump on the sled and ride when I first got it. Coming from competitive on and off road motorcycles riding, I figured it can't be THAT different. Lets just say it opened my eyes as to how poorly these things handle, however with a little effort and finesse I've got it to handle pretty good. Takes time and effort. Sleds are unique, but once again, you don't learn until you try.

If I head out anywhere I'll let you know.
