Scary forsure but I don't know if I would say his snowpulse saved him. The camera was mounted on the sled was it not? But I know his snowpulse sure did not hurt anything.

Looked pretty innocent. Storm snow and wind slab. Looks like what I saw in the video that it wasn't that much of a problem.....I wasn't there so don't know for sure.

Happy he was okay.

any idea if an air bag gives any protection from debris ... like if you hit a rock or tree would the air bag have enough compression in it to give protection...kinda like in a car ??

i agree area looked innocent enough

I said "probably" saved him. The description said he pulled his snowpulse and his sled was buried while he was not. That was definitely a big enough slide to bury and kill someone...no joke. He's lucky there weren't more trees to get hung up on...

When you guys say it looked innocent do you mean that there was no exposure below him or that the slide was innocent? Because there was nothing innocent about that slide. Just sayin

I'd say he's lucky and I'm glad he was

i mean before the slide the hill looked in the video fairly safe ... i mean we dont know which was the hill was facing etc i dont think you can blame the guy for riding where he was ...if you get my drift!

I get your drift...that hill looked innocent in a safe snowpack for sure. I only posted it because I thought his Snowpulse probably helped save him.

I qualified my statement and said "I wasn't there so don't know for sure" but as he was going up the partly covered trail the hill looked fairly innocent. One doesn't always get the true picture from a video and probably so in this case.

From what I saw in the video I would have poked that slope but in real life I may not have.....just saying.

Glad he was okay and the air bag worked.

The worst part about it was the fact that he's not wearing a helmet...I can't really comment on the snowpack or the slope based on the gopro footage. I'm just glad he was wearing a Snowpulse. :)

for sure the pack helped ... the fact no helmet was kinda why i was wondering if the bag would offer any other protection other than keep you afloat

The Snowpulse bag inflates around your head and neck to provide some protection for your head and c-spine against trauma. I use one but hope to never have to pull it in an avalanche.

Seems to be turning into a learning video. Did have the sun beating down on it. Early day or late day? Good thing he made it. Just a note. Air bads don`t always save you going thru trees. Didn`t help my friend. RIP

that slope looks the exact opposite of innocent .. i'd say it;s about 30* slope, prime slide zone.

generally speaking sleds float to the top while people get buried, if that avy was big enough to bury a sled, without the pack he would have surely been buried.

There are lots of tracks at the bottom of that hill just recently covered because it is where they hold the METEOR MINE Hillclimb. Also goes to show that just because an area is well tracked does not mean it is safe. Not an innocent place to be riding. I'm going to link that in the thread pertaining to the hillclimb. Thanks for posting Chris.
