hmmm anything at SAIT would be pretty pricey I think. Maybe we should start a skills swap here somewhere. I'll fix your computer or the like, and you show me how to change a belt (haahah)

I feel your pain. When my son was 14 he I heard him playing x box live. So I went down asked who he was talking to and he said his friend. I asked who and he said Mike. Well I never knew no Mike so I asked where he was from and he told me Fort Worth. Well I said it was bed time and went to bed. At 4 am he was still talking to Mike so I went down and shut it off. I woke up at 8 and you guessed it he was talking to Mike again. I grabbed his x box and smashed it on my driveway. He is 18 now and doesn't game. But has lots of real friends and hobbies. Sometimes you just have to take it away lol

He now hunts, quads, snowmobiles. Pretends he is a mechanic and is apprenticing as a plumber.

I've been on both ends of this spectrum. Me and a buddy ran up a $500 long distance bill when we were about 10, on his dad's modem, dialing long distance to a pay service all to play D&D. It was text based and appeared on the screen one character at a time, and it took like 5 minutes to draw the screen. we were hooked, and his old man smashed that modem to pieces. We still look back and laugh about it today. Earlier tonight I removed his door. I've been telling him for months now, if he has one more tantrum and stomps off and slams his bedroom door, I am going to remove it. He thought it was some big involved process and so I wouldn't do it. ahahaha now he has no door to slam.

Did my tig welding class at Nait. They offer stick mig and tig welding classes. They have a catalog for continuing education. Sait should be the same.

I picked up a "Bear" compound bow a couple of years ago and finally took proper lessons, on how to fire it. I went to "Jim Bows" archery, just off of McKnight and Edm Trail NE.
I highly recommend him and I was surprised, with how many kids....... 14 and younger, were there shooting Long Bows.
There is another place, just off of 52 St and 50 Ave SE and I like their lanes and set up. (they are also closer to where I live)

Maybe talk to mama, and go visit either and talk. She might agree with you on this one.......

Good luck

Awesome info. I know the kid would like it. He went to an archery camp in Fairmount while we were there on holidays. It was only like an hour, but no one really "lead" the class. So he didn't really know what to do, until some other kid gave him a hand. He enjoyed it after that.

Yah but is that something that a father / son can do together as a hobby? Sounds too "official". Possibly expensive? Would a 14 year old meet possible per-requisites?

Check into continuing education. Has all the requirements there. If you attend as well prob not an issue with his age

a good friend of mine has two sons who could not stop gaming and when they weren't they fought like cats and dogs. It was pretty bad so one day he made a deal with them that for every hour they put into another project they were allowed to play for equal time. The "other" project was building robotics from scratch and now they have competed in countries like Singapore, Brazil, US and Europe. They won in their age group as well. It was relatively inexpensive to get into and after a few years they now have a great future in front of them. I have 3 daughters so fortunately gaming was not on their radar…….. only boys… yikes!!!

Hey, this is Alberta and he's 14! Give him the Operator's Licence Handbook and a certificate to take the written test. I don't know about you, but at that age I couldn't wait to drive. You may even suggest that if he does a good job and helps around the house that you'll buy an old beater that you can work on together until he's 16. As for the wife, Apple does have the new iPad Pro, which I expect would be a hit.

He isn't like that at all. I bet he won't be driving until he's in his 20's. He just isn't interested.... I'm not opposed to buying his first beater.... Growing up in my family, our parents bought our first vehicle if we didn't smoke.... (we all started AFTER we got the cars). I bought him an RC monster truck one year, I don't think he used it once. As for the woman, I actually have all her gifts, and we aren't an Apple household. Windows or Android (even 2 playbooks) but no Apple.

Is he into music, how about getting him tickets to a concert? And depending on your budget, could be an opportunity for a boys weekend trip to someplace cool to see it. As for the wife, mine is all Apple all of the time. iPhone, iWatch, MacBook Pro and I'm sure can't wait to unwrap iPad number 4. The kids were always into iPods, but when she got her first MacBook about 6 years ago she hated it at first, but now wouldn't even think about using anything else. Oh, but she also likes Bose, and the Bose Mini Bluetooth speakers are fantastic - she can take it anywhere, and may even let you take it for the sled trailer on your next trip.
