Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and getting back into the sport after being away for a couple of years. Looking at a 2011 800 etek with a 154, I have rode a etek with a 163 x 3" and loved it . If I wanted to change to a 163 x 2.5" in the future, would I need to do more than rail and tunnel extensions?

Cooling will become an even bigger issue in marginal snow if this is not attended to. The ETEC's run hotter than the Pteks.

You might want to gear it down. But other then that it's a direct bolt in. Why not just buy a 163 etec there should be some for sale with the new xm coming out.

Also thinking I might not mind the 154 as I do prefer boondocking in the trees more than doing big hill climbs, and maybe it would work good to upgrade to a 2.5" 154 camoplast track or if they come out with a 154 x 3" track. Something like that might be the best of both worlds..

The best way to do the 154 to 163 swap is rails (or extensions) you will want longer sliders, the track and a tunnel extension to keep the snow flap out past the track to keep cooling at a premium.

I would opt for rails that have a better attack angle like the 2013's. There are options out there to get aftermarket rails that have an improved attack angle, or you can find someone who has done a 174 swap and get their rails.

There isn't a huge difference between a 154 and 163. Footprint matters and in the deep you will notice the 163 will get you a little farther. The biggest difference I find on a 163 is I can't wheelie out of a climb the same way I can on a 154. It would just be a matter of getting more seat time to compensate for the longer track.

If you are a heavier rider, don't be affraid to go with the 163. I'm a light weight and I outclimb my buddy on his 154. If he had a 163 he might still get a little further but the HP is going to be the same. In the trees and boondocking the 154 does well.

It listed in the for sale section...

It's the cleanest mint one I've seen.

I've put on 300-400 miles and have one ride on a new Doo 12 take off track

Have an 09' 154" summit w/163" track, works awesome, power hits harder so it spins easier, but they climb equally amazing, not to mention they love playing in the trees!!!! Screw a short track for in the trees, I am in love with the long tracks in the tight technical trees, can't wait to try a 174". or even a 3" paddle, or BOTH!!!!, not to mention maybe one day even with a turbo!!! Who knows, only time will tell:cool:

Ended up finding a xp with a 163, so I don't have to worry about the swap anymore. Cheers

I was actually surprised at how much different a 163" is from a 154" when pulling a hill in powder It was my 800Etec and a new xm 163 I got a jump on him and he still crested the hill about 4 sled lengths ahead of me and the xm was still in it's break in mode
