Chaincase oil

ok so new to these sleds and ya its my firts sled reali that i have owned myself so i dont realli know my way around em. i pulled my oil dipstick and it was pretty dirty and smelled like it needs a change. i have no clue how to do an oil swap so was wondering if ya guys would send me a list of the steps. and one more thing friend of mine said that i should open the engine up and grease the bearings and everything cause it has over 3000k on it. should i before the season starts?? thanks ahead of time.

Go to your local Doo dealer and purchase synthetic chaincase oil. You should have easy access to your chain case cover being its a rev, you may have to remove the can. Pop off the four bolts on the cover, you may want to tip the sled on its side to prevent oil from running all over, if you do not tip it then have plenty of rags to soak up the oil. While the chain case cover is off check for tension on your chain drive, make sure the bolts holding the gears on are torqued to proper specs and do a good visual of everthing inside the chain case. If you search the Snow & Mud sight there is a goood forum on inspecting the chain case on Doos. Also it might be woth your while to purchase a service manual for the year of your sled, lots of great info on maintenance and repairs. As for grease your bearings on the 06 I don't know if that is required on the H.O. motors, I know the 800r's it is suggested to grease the bearings after about 2500 miles.

Thanks a bunch man. ya i am gunna deff get one of those manuals. ya i pulled it out and noticed some metal shavings on the megnet. is that normal??? and before opening the chase should i do the standard warm up to thin the oil up??

Some shavings on the magnet is normal. You can't really "warm up" the c-case oil....I'd open the drain (pretty sure the 06 has an allen head drain underneath through a hole in the belly pan), let 'er drip fer 5 min...then pull the cover off and wipe up the rest. I'd inspect the chain...maybe replace it if the sled is a high miler. Set the tension finger tight while you can see the chain, replace lid and fill as required. I've never bought Doo oil yet...75/90 synth oil from Crappy Tire works great.

The bottom end bearing grease is NOT something you can likely do....well, unless you're a mechanic or been inside a few motors....

Thanks ya i was thinking of replacing it anyways. saves time and money in the end. was also was looking to switching the gearing up. whats good for the 06 rev's? 19-47?? i herd thats good to go.

I use the klotz chaincase stuff but any chaincase oil will do. Or you can use ATF.

Agree with Dave, i have been using the 75/90 synthetic oil for 6 years now, less filings on the plug than when using chaincase oil & everything is showing good signs (no abnormal wear on the chain & gears is what i mean).

Traditionally two stroke engine bearings are lubed by the injector oil (or oil in premix). However, a couple years ago Doo started using sealed bearings in some of their two strokes. You would have to completely disassemble the engine to service them. I'm quite sure your '06 has regular open bearings.

Some people back east put 10000 miles on a year and I'm willing to bet they don't give the engine bearings a second thought.

Being its an 06 I would not worry about the crank bearings. I would be more concerned with doing a top end over haul between 3,500 and 5,000 k.

awesome guys thanks a lot. ya i got it home pulled it and was like wtf. but then found out that it was a regualr to do every season. got the heart going a bit. but for gearing what do you guys suggest and what kind of chain?
and with the inside bearing is there any of the problems with the engine that the 07's have? i know there a totally different engine but curious i want this thing to be spot on for the season.

and the top end will be done next spring. previous owner got it checked out and its solid.

i set the chain tension by tightening finger tight. then backing off half turn or so until the cotter pin slides. in.

NOW...like mentioned make sure that chain is in good condition. i would personally just replace it since you just got the machine and dont know the history of that chain.

when one of those breaks it gets ugly. and if you throw a new chain on then you will have a good backup to leave in the truck.

heres one on a rev that let go. i might be running a few extra ponies. but still.

One thing I found with mine that I wish I would have done when I bought it was pull the air box off and have a good look inside , make sure it isn't full of belt dust, also pull the drain plugs on the carbs make sure they aren't full of crap. My box was full of chit and when i disassembled my carbs this year, they were full of dust and belt goodies:( this caused some piston ring wear which has led to a new top end in mine

I know a lot of posts have dropped their top gear down one tooth to 19 with good results. Just a question? Will this be your first season of running the sled? If it is I would lean towards running it for a season just to see how it performs and then start doing some mods that are geared towards the performance and riding style that you would like. Of course do the regular maintenace tasks before you ride this season. Just my :twocents: on doing mods. Don't get me wrong I love to do mods on a sled, I just like to get the biggest bang for my buck when I am doing mods.
