Had a guy tell me the only thing he uses is ATF. Would be nice to be able to use that if it works good. Its cheap, nice and light, and is designed to lubricate. Any reasons not to use it?

Ive been using a synthetic gear oil up until now. I refuse to pay the ridiculous price the manufacturers want for their products.

Heated debate bout this on snowest a few years back. Verdict was from anyone that knew anything about drivlines was that atf was the best alternative.
I've been using it for 5+ years no issues in tons of sleds. I bought a few bulk pails of good atf and no issues!
I'd say it works better actually less filings it seems.

Just posted my rank in Skidoo forum.... For me royal purple full syn gear. Does not gum up on a -30 day. Can see that one for yourself. Run it in all my vehicles from gear to motor oil, always get the least amount of filings

Running low visc (deere hygard) trans hydraulic in the old sleds this year. Free from work and should lube better than gear oil. Xp still gets BRP liquid gold though.

I have run nothing but ATF for many years, that includes in my Diamond Drive the last two. Never had a failure. Based on the fact that people seem to run everything under the sun from thin to thick I would say just about anything this side of Mazola will work.
