Calgary Snow Mobile Club - Come and Join the Club

You can purchase ASA trail passes through our website, or if you wish, you can attend our next general club meeting. Our next general meeting is this Tuesday January 17, at 7:30 PM. Our meetings are held at the East Calgary Twin Arena at 299 Erin Woods Dr SE, upstairs in the conference room. The general meetings are held on the Third Tuesday of every month (Sept - April).

$30 per rider - this includes your day trail pass and 3 poker hands.

First riders scheduled to be out by 9am Sunday morning.

Most of the crew and organizers are already out at Cataract preparing and organizing. I'll be headed out early Saturday morning.

Note: there is no cell service out there so responses from CSC club members may be delayed and/or not seen until Monday. I will be commuting back Saturday night and I'll do my best to update and respond to any questions at that time.

Please bring your ASA membership card to avoid having to purchase an ASA day pass.

Day passes are available for non-ASA members (included in the $30 fee)

Also, as this is public land, your sled needs to be properly registered and insured. Please ensure you have all your proper documents with you for your vehicles, trailers, and sleds in the event law enforcement officers are present and checking for proper documentation.

Update as of 6:30 PM:

Just came back from our club ride at Cataract Creek. A lot of CSC members, ASA executive and members, and many sled enthusiasts attended and rode the trails.

The trails are the best I've seen them in the past four years!!!

Sledderglen and his crew were headed back out tonight to groom again so the trails are perfect for tomorrow's poker rally. See my posts from yesterday for all the info.

Hey everyone, I have the opportunity to move out of country and I am at the point of selling all my belongings to fulfill a dream. If anyone is looking to buy a sled I have a great package where you can pretty much hook up and go! I have a 2016 Skidoo Summit-Burton edition with 16 hours and 326km on it. It still in the engine break-in phase. I am also selling my utility trailer I use to haul my sled which is 12ft long by 6.5ft wide which fits two sleds no problem. The sled comes with the linq snowboard/ski mounts, sled cover, spare belt, new jug of oil will also throw in a burton snowboard and bindings if interested. the price for the sled and trailer is $12,999 O.B.O!!

Can you please tell us where to get trail passes from.

Most dealers have them, but call to be sure before you go to your favorite dealer.
I know they are available in High River, Okotoks, Cochrane, Balzac, and most locations in Calgary.

It is actually Glen, Snow Grooming Leader, semi-retired and full-time volunteer, and Darry Lennox - The Accessories Shop in High River - who never stops thinking and contributing to how we can keep moving forward and make Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails better and better. All three of us take part in a weekly snow dance, as that is the only thing we can not create. (It is pretty funny seeing three 50'ish guys dancing in the middle of Cataract Creek trailhead parking lot whooping and hollering...........LOL)

Glen has been working as he could, as the snow did not really show up until after Christmas. The base is there now, most trails were smoothed this past October 1 & 2, and that has helped tremendously. After this past weekend - though - we have a big job ahead of us/Glen, as the poker rally really beat up the trails. Please have patience with us, as there is a lot of work to do to get the trails back in shape, and we need more snow too.

Darryl was able to talk with the groomer operator for the Crowsnest Pass snowmobile club, our "sister" club in the pass - the CrowSnow Riders - and make arrangements for their big unit with blade, drag, and uber experienced operator to find the time to come up to our snowmobile trails and help us out. Our club executive agreed to spend the money from Trail Passes to make this happen. Best decision ever!!! All weekend long we heard how excellent the trails were. A big thanks to Darryl for putting this in motion.

By the way, The CrowSnow Riders are hosting their Poker Rally on Saturday, January 28, in conjunction with our S.T.A.R.S. Club Ride, leaving Atlas Trailhead in the morning.

If you enjoyed this past Sunday's poker rally at Cataract Creek - and even if you were unable to attend - you are more than welcome to attend this great event for S.T.A.R.S.!

snow is there good, best on the west-most and southern-most trails, but after this past weekend's Poker Rally, some are quite beat up.
Best are Oyster Excursion Trail in the very south and west, Baril Loop in the very west and north. All others were used for the Poker Rally (except for Valley Bottom Trail, which has damage not repaired yet and recommended not to travel on).

Joe was great. I never got to ride with him but Daryl did. That man is a major asset to the Crow Snowriders. He sure can groom a trail with the help of his clubs BR 180 and Mogul Master Drag. Thanks to the Crow Snowriders for the chance to show our riders the potential of our area to others by grooming our trails with a large trail groomer. The difference was more than obvious as the North trails were groomed by our snowmobiles and small drags and the South trails were groomer by the large snowcat. The snowmobile groomed trail are OK for packing and setting trail in early season to cover the rocks and set the width and some of the base. The large groomer just packs it so hard with its weight the snow has nothing to do but pack solid. This solid trail withstands the effect of sleds and tracks better that the snowmobile groomed trails. Temperatures of -25 at night sure helps set it up also. If we had fewer riders the snowmobile groomed trails would handle the impact. This weekend out of Cataract Creek staging area alone over the weekend there was over 300 sleds go down that trail. Etherington Staging area also seen huge numbers of riders as well.
This weekend proved the point of the area needing a larger trail groomer such as what Crow Snowriders have or to be able to have the opportunity to purchase the ALL TRACK unit. At this time though the club can not meet the financial requirements to purchase a unit worth over $100,000.00. With over 1.2 million people within a couple of hours of this area it cant help but have a large use of this area. Options of other riding areas are limited as the other areas are not at the same level of trail quality as Cataract creek snow vehicle area.

I'm taking a couple of days off and will be out again soon as I can. Lots to catch up on and to gather the poker run signs before they get taken or lost in the snow. I also need to fix my Skandic as it needs some loving after the work its been doing. It blows headlight bulbs and needs a new voltage regulator I hope. I have some large LED headlights and groomer lights to install as well as going over the clutches on the old girl. This weekend the other Darrel from High River drove this unit every night behind me with NO headlight. I would like to thank him for his ability to drive by BRAIL many times as he would get stuck or slow down and lose my tail grooming light.

Thanks for all the help by the volunteers and the sponsors and supporters of this event. Maybe Scott could do a list of all those who helped make this event a success. Thanks for all the positive comments from you riders towards the club for working on keeping this area going.

It was a busy morning on Sunday and Scott forgot all the fixings. Riders showing up early. Dealer trailers needing parking, etc. I just heard about this today. Hey guess there is always a hick up or 15 along the way. So next year it will be way better with fixings. LOL
