Is there not bridges over creeks going to fording?

Yes new fiberglass bridge BUT the horsey outfitter guy cleaned out a creek crossing of boulders this spring and made Barill Creek crossing a bit deeper. Now its not freezing. I made a suggestion on how to speed up freezing but unsure if it was done by fording riders yet

Yes there is a new bridge but a small creek crossing about half way to park boundary. Went for a little tour on the 2 nd and snow was getting skinny the further west you went. Turned around at park boundary

4 creeks. 1 has a bridge, 1 is typically frozen over and 2 are usually open. In my 10+ yrs riding there I don't think all 4 have ever been fully frozen at the same time.

Ive only been over once. I remember it being pretty straight forward to get there except for where to go down when you are on the rocky top( I believe this is what some call the moon?)

Once upon a time, I came across a Google map with someone's GPS track/route, to Fording, laid out on it. If I remember right, he also had descriptions with creek crossings, left vs right turns, and landmarks to watch for etc. I distinctly recall his photos of Mt. Boulton and his plea for riders to stay in bounds also attached. Does anybody else recall seeing this post? Maybe someone reading has it archived? If so, could you re-post or send me a PM please?

Was out last weekend and the trails from Cataract Creek and into the Crow Snow Riders area was fantastic. We almost made it completely to Crows Nest Pass but run out of daylight and time. Anybody on here know the last 20km of trail to Crows Nest Pass? We stopped at old man river road at the warming shack.

Summit X, I know you know what you are talking about here, but are you counting creek crossings from the Etherington parking lot, or just from where Baril Creek Trail departs from Baril Loop Trail?

I was thinking that, from where Baril Creek Trail originates off of Baril Loop Trial (where I think of as the start of going over Fording Pass), there are only 2 creek crossings, the first one is the one Glen was referring to - which was cleared and deepened this past pre-summer - and the other one with the new fiberglass bridge. Am I not thinking straight tonight?

Nice screen shot. That first deep spot as you have written on your shot. Try throwing some spruce bows onto the water and it will get caught up on the ice. This will slow the water down and allow it to freeze and start the process of icing over. Do it when cold on your way out at the end of day so it can freeze good. This may work give it a try next time your out there. Bows will just float away in the spring no harm done. Unless your the tree. LOL

Rally is open for anyone get there early. Special rate for trail pass holders. All welcome. Need plates and insurance for your sleds.
This is NOT A RACE. Will be over a hundred sleds running around lets be safe and have a good day

TylerG, ……..Thanks for directing me to this forum,
I just finished all 24 pages,
As a newbie, I wanted to get to know all I could before I head out

Looks like SedderGlen and Kaz Dog are a couple guys that do most of the upkeep and would be the ones to keep an eye on here..

Going to buy my trail pass and head out with a buddy on the 21[SUP]st[/SUP]
Thanks again,

Gordon Russell

Gordon, welcome to Cataract! The Calgary Snowmobile Club Trails Committee members do their best for this dedicated Snow Vehcile Public Land Use Zone, specifically the trails. We are in our second year grooming, led by Glen, a diehard character if I have ever met one when it comes to the love of snowmobiling, and specifically doing for others freely and with a smile on his face.

I try to work behind the scenes - now - as Glen leads the "on-the-ground" in the winter and signage for the area - and Darryl from The Accessory Shop in High River leads the summer trail maintenance work - when it comes to getting it done on the ground. I liaison with government personnel, other user groups, attend meetings with environmentalist groups/concerned citizen groups, industry on the landscape (3 and counting), ATTAIN OUR LEGAL DOCUMENTATION for the work being done in the summer and operations in the winter, amongst other items.

It could be a full time job+, but many hands make the lifting easier. We have a dependable group of volunteers who love to get out on the land and improve the area for all users - motorized and non-motorized both. We can always use more, and I have plenty of blank paper and pens to keep taking names of those who would like to help out.
