Don't know anyone in the CSC so I figured I would post here. I went hiking out Cataract creek last weekend. Went out to the end and around the cataract loop and back. The trail is pretty much clear of any deadfall. Two trees down but both could be ridden around. Of more concern is that the bridge over cataract by Fallers looks like it is barely hanging onto the f allers side bank. Looks like maybe a foot of log still on it, and it is undercut as well. If anyone has the equipment to haul it a bit further to that side, as well as maybe get some rock into the creek to divert the water away, it can probably be saved. Otherwise if it starts raining again this fall, it could be gone.

Thanks for the update! This crossing is on our list to attend to this Sept./Oct. during upcoming Trail Maintenance Days. The days have not been set in stone yet, but we have discussed two weekends in September, after the long weekend, and two in October, for those that can make it out. More to come very shortly.

I am with the club, and am the Trails Committee Organizer.

Great, I just got into sledding and have never been out there in the winter. Was mostly doing the hike to see if there was any skiing terrain that could be reached and how much snow might be needed before the trails were passable.

The area opens December 1, every year, you risk a ticket is you show up before that. The snow may or may not be good early, it all depends on our November snow. Time will tell. What type of skiing terrain you looking for? Cross-country, downhill, boarding on snowmobile?

Back country, using the sled more as access to get to slopes, then climbing to ski. On the hike went west from the top of cataract loop where it joins up to etherington. Looks like some possibilitys out that way. Trail doesn't look very well used and is blocked with a big rock slide just after it comes out of the trees. I think that is outside the designated sled trails though. I did know they aren't open until later and one of the reasons for the hike was to figure out how much snow might be needed before they were rideable. I was pretty surprised at just how smooth it mostly was. However I do know how iffy snow is now.

Probably won't actually get a chance to check it anyway as I started spending winters in Whistler last year. Although if we have another year like last....

Looking ahead to Trail Maintenance Days on Saturday, and Sunday;

Saturday looks to be chilly! With a current high of 0 Celsius in the afternoon, don't be deterred. Bring appropriate clothing (Cool and wet) and "volunteer through it"!

Sunday looks a bit better: 9 Celsius at the highest (afternoon), cool in the A.M.
